1st shot 5/25

Summary

What are early experiences like starting retatrutide at 1 mg, including side effects, dosing adjustments, weight loss, and supplement tips?

One user tracked weekly 1 mg shots over several weeks, noting quick appetite drop, reduced soda intake, 5 lb then steady loss down to around 210, plus mild fatigue, sleep trouble, burps, and later headaches. Others shared similar fatigue on injection day, stressed electrolytes and water, and debated whether to stay low longer or titrate faster to an effective dose. Sleep issues and bowel changes came up repeatedly, with some adding magnesium, B vitamins, and fiber.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether to remain at 1 mg for a full month before increasing or to move up sooner once effects taper; some view low starts as wasteful while others see them as safer for adaptation.

Still open

Whether reconstituted retatrutide remains fully effective and side-effect free past 60-80 days, and the best way to handle persistent sleep problems.

Nothing here is advice.

Wanted to keep a short log of how things go. Guy, 6 ft, 41 years old, 238 lb, beginning at 1 mg. Main aim is to catch my breath when tying shoes. Kidding aside, I'd like to reach the low 200s without rushing and ending up with extra skin. Reading around, some start at 0.5 and add 0.5 weekly while others jump 2-4 mg at a time. I'll stay at 1 mg until weight stalls for a couple weeks, then add 0.5-1 mg. Day 1 on 5/25 my wife gave the shot in my side because needles aren't my thing. Felt some soreness at the spot and maybe a bit toward my back, though it could have been from yard work. Had burps and felt bloated that day. First night sleep was off, second night a bit better. Eating less and getting full quicker, cut from three or four sodas to one, still had a few peanut butter candies once a day, and cut carbs without much effort.

NorthMeadow44archiveMay 28

Felt somewhat tired the first day and a little again in the afternoon of day two.

GreenQuill54archiveMay 28

Good luck. I also notice some tiredness on the evening of the shot and the next day.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 28

Keep electrolytes up while on this, but go easy on sodium. Probably not an issue yet at the starting dose. Try holding the same amount for four weeks before moving up.

BlueMeadow35archiveMay 28

Congrats. I'm also new and keeping a similar running log. Wish I had begun at 1 mg like you. I did 0.5 mg first to test tolerance then another 0.5 mg a couple days later. Planning the next 1 mg this coming Saturday. Thirst jumped a lot for me, easily two gallons of water daily. Similar age, bit taller, over 100 lb heavier. Electrolytes and lots of water help. I also added 3-6 g fiber each morning and sometimes before dinner starting a week before the first shot and I'm glad I did.

NorthMeadow44archiveMay 29

Day 4 and the effects already feel like they're easing. More interest in food again and drinking less water. Almost had a second soda with dinner but skipped it. Still fill up faster than before so there's still some help. Haven't seen anyone mention this, but does anyone have experience mixing Adderall with this? One of my wife's coworkers is on either tirzepatide or semaglutide plus Adderall. I've been on 15 mg for years and was just wondering.

PlainTimber80archiveMay 29

Splitting the dose is pretty common when the effects drop off early. Might be worth thinking about, though I know extra shots aren't appealing if needles bother you.

NorthMeadow44archiveMay 29

Yeah I'm keeping it on a six-day schedule for the first couple weeks. Used to get allergy shots twice a week and just looked away while they did it.

WryCinder14archiveMay 29

This is great, I like these kinds of updates. Just started today myself so I'll follow along. Thanks for sharing.

NorthMeadow44archiveMay 31

Day 6. With the six-day half-life I'm sticking to that schedule and did the shot this morning in the arm, 10 units or 1 mg. Still had some lower right back discomfort for a few hours afterward, so it wasn't just the injection spot. That's roughly where the kidney sits. Anyone else notice kidney-area discomfort? Nothing bad, didn't slow me down, just noticed it. Five hours later a mild headache started, same as after the first shot, plus a bit of fatigue. Scale showed 233, down 5 lb so far. Yesterday I could eat more without feeling full quickly, had eggs and sausage around 4 and a meatball sub around 10. Might have skipped breakfast, probably just coffee.

That's usually how it goes. I should have said that. My own spreadsheet showed 5 lb week one, 4 lb week two, then settled to 1.5-2 lb per week.

NorthMeadow44archiveJun 9

Did the third 1 mg shot Saturday evening before bed and that seemed to reduce the small sides from before. Slept well the first night but the next night couldn't fall asleep and woke after a couple hours. It feels like it's building up even at 1 mg. Can't eat anywhere near as much as before. Thinking less about junk food and soda, making better grocery choices most of the time. Weighed 229 this morning. Work pants that were tight now fit comfortably and clipping toenails is easier.

The first three weeks are the toughest. Make sure you're getting your vitamins. Methylated B complex, trace minerals, magnesium at night, and electrolytes are the minimum. One pill in the evening after food, work up to two as it helps with stool. Add fiber if you can. Take two every morning on an empty stomach. Fish oil and psyllium husk are also helpful. If sides show up and these basics aren't covered, that's on you.

NorthMeadow44archiveJun 9

I already had sleep trouble before this, so it might just be my usual pattern. Gummies or melatonin help a little, but the sleep issues feel slightly different now. My wife might get annoyed if I'm interested more than twice a day. She had some magnesium so I took that. I'll order the rest, thanks. Never been into supplements so I'll need to read up. Was into the gym in college but stopped after. Always ate poorly. Even losing 10 lb makes you feel better.

Not questioning you, just how I do it. One shot per week. Appetite control doesn't seem to fade for me. Down 46 lb in 19 weeks, average 2.4 lb per week.

KeenMarble79archiveJun 9

Just did my second 1 mg shot on Sunday. Hard to tell if it's doing anything yet. No sides might be a good sign.

1 mg isn't a big dose. Try 1 mg every three days. One week isn't long enough to really notice much. I did four 0.5 mg shots my first week and didn't feel anything until the third one.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 9
↳ replying to @KeenMarble79

Pretty low dose. Do what was suggested or stay at that level for four weeks to let it build, then go to 2 mg. Can we tell my wife that?

QuietSignal61archiveJun 9
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

I really can't suggest staying at 1 mg except for people who are very sensitive or already have their eating under control. I've seen two family members start at 1 mg then go to 2 mg after four weeks. It feels like a slow way to lose time and possibly reduce how well the drug works later. One of them ended up needing 6 mg a week because 5 mg wasn't enough. I think 1 mg can make you less responsive pretty quickly. You only need one or two weeks to get used to it and three or four weeks for most sides to settle.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 9
↳ replying to @QuietSignal61

Practice I guess. I started at 2 mg. The ones that get me are the 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 starters. No idea where that advice comes from. Clearly never looked at the original trials.

QuietSignal61archiveJun 9

Yeah, people heard lowest effective dose and went straight to microdosing. It actually means get to a dose that works for you fairly quickly and stay there while it keeps working.

AmberAlder67archiveJun 9

I agree five pounds the first week is a lot, but dropping two sodas a day probably would have caused some of that even without the medication. Several of us who quit soda lost around 20 lb in a month.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 9
↳ replying to @AmberAlder67

Those first couple weeks are generally water loss.

AmberAlder67archiveJun 9
↳ replying to @QuietSignal61

Everyone's different. I do one shot every seven days and lost 30 lb on 1 mg a week over eight weeks. Stopped for a month, restarted two weeks ago and lost another 6 lb. I had already been eating carnivore for four months and lost 20-25 lb before starting, so my diet was already good. Never noticed the effect dropping off after four or five days and never went above 1 mg. Guess I'm a strong responder. Not saying your info is wrong, just that results vary. You're giving solid advice, I just don't think there's only one right way.

QuietSignal61archiveJun 9
↳ replying to @AmberAlder67

You're the exception and that's great progress. I wasn't talking about you, I meant the others. Still, I think you would have seen the same results with split doses, but the reverse isn't always true.

NorthMeadow44archiveJun 14

Shot four. My usual helper fell asleep early so I was a day late. Did 1 mg last night, seven days apart. Had trouble sleeping but we had a race that night and my mind usually races afterward anyway. No sides today and appetite suppression feels back. No urge to eat anything this morning. Scale has been bouncing between 226 and 232. Thinking about another 1 mg in three days or waiting the full six days then going to 2 mg. Food wasn't great this week because we were busy most evenings and ended up with fast food often.

NorthMeadow44archiveJun 28

Haven't updated in a couple weeks. Started 1 mg every three or four days after the last post and weight loss has leveled off or even crept back a pound or two. Added the magnesium, B12, and other supplements suggested earlier. Felt tired most days last week and didn't feel like working on projects in the evenings, sometimes napped in the afternoon around 5-7. People mention tiredness with this, but I'm only at about 2 mg total per week. Hard to eat early in the day, usually just coffee and often still not hungry at lunch. That might be why I'm wiped out later. Tried eggs and sausage yesterday and had stomach cramps most of the day. Bowels have slowed too, which makes sense with lower intake. Weather was bad and rainy, which affects my wife's mood but not usually mine. Going up to a 2 mg shot tonight.

I read some study info that beginning lower helps with adaptation or plasticity and cuts side effects a lot as people increase. Starting higher meant the body never adapted and sides stayed worse in that group.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 28

Nearly every unwanted reaction has cleared up for me at this stage, aside from problems getting rest. I'm still awaiting word from the heart specialist about a couple of options I'm interested in testing to address the insomnia.

QuietSignal61archiveJun 28
↳ replying to @NorthSignal16

You read some random comment, not a study. You don't want to start too high or increase too fast, but you do want to begin near an effective dose. Starting too low can make you lose sensitivity so you end up needing more later to get the same results others get with less.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 28
↳ replying to @NorthSignal16

I started at 2 mg back in early January. Minimal sides, some heartburn at night and maybe bloating at first. Those are long gone, but sleep trouble that began around the 6 mg doses is still there. I'm at 9 mg now with no sides except sleep, so that kind of shows the idea isn't always true. Everyone is different though.

NorthSignal16archiveJun 28
↳ replying to @QuietSignal61

Or maybe you don't know everything at 28 and it actually was a study.

Source on what you posted? Looks like AI. The actual studies started at 2 mg and 4 mg.

I spotted this reply in a thread I jumped into the other day and added my own thoughts below it. The person stated they had zero plans to back up their point since that sort of thing wasn't for them and instead told me to hunt it down online myself. πŸ˜‚

QuietSignal61archiveJun 28

Right. The text in your image looks AI generated so the data probably is too, or at least possibly twisted. Your choice. Edit: looked into it and the research you mentioned doesn't exist. You may have seen misinterpreted data about GI tolerability at lower doses. That specific wording about plasticity and adaptation wasn't used.

NorthMeadow44archiveAug 16

I've dropped to about 210 pounds. I began with 2 milligrams on the twenty-ninth of June and kept going at that rate every six days. I'm still on the original container, which is now roughly eighty days since I prepared it. It looks like most folks aim to finish theirs in under two months. I only located a thirty milligram one, so that's what I reconstituted. The head pain side effects seem to be intensifying rather than easing up during the initial days following each shot. I'm trying to figure out whether it's a matter of not drinking enough water or perhaps connected to how long the container has been sitting. Has anyone gone beyond the two-month point after mixing and noticed if the negative effects got stronger as time went on?

NorthWillow72archiveAug 16
↳ replying to @NorthMeadow44

Logic points to three possibilities. Degradation would likely cause fewer sides, not more. Hydration issues can cause headaches. Bacteria or endotoxin buildup might make it cloudy or cause injection-site reactions.

NorthMeadow44archiveAug 18
↳ replying to @NorthWillow72

Checked it before the shot this morning. Still clear. Only did 1.8 mg or 18 units today because we're leaving for vacation Thursday.

CopperSignal27archiveAug 19

Headaches are fairly common and don't have to come from the medication, though they could. Lower weight, eating less or differently, and drinking fewer fluids can all trigger them too. Are they one-sided and throbbing like migraines or more of a general tightness? Any history of headaches? If they're new, getting a medical opinion is smart if they continue. Least likely cause is probably contaminants. I got my worst migraine cycle right after adding this on top of 15 mg tirzepatide, every day at 5 or 6 a.m., helped by eletriptan but kept returning for about eight days before stopping. So headaches aren't a typical side but clearly possible. If they don't stop, a medical check might mean trying tirzepatide instead.

PlainAlder11archiveAug 19
↳ replying to @NorthMeadow44

Never had a headache on this since the start, and really no major sides from 2 mg up to 10 mg. I'm an eight-week, 60-day person on reconstituted vials but will go to ten weeks if needed.
