Birth Control?

Summary

What birth control options work with tirzepatide or similar meds when oral pills may lose effectiveness?

Users share experiences with various non-pill methods while noting slowed digestion can reduce oral contraceptive reliability, though effects may lessen over time on a stable dose. Several mention IUDs as reliable, while others discuss the patch or ring; one person is in menopause and considering options like the ring. The thread shows mixed awareness of any interaction with non-oral methods.

Which birth control approach are you using? The doctor won't prescribe the pill for me. She suggests using condoms during the four weeks when I raise my Tirz amount.

My intrauterine device is already in place. Pills might lose effectiveness because digestion runs more slowly. Is it likely they'll bring up other approaches that fit your needs? Rings placed inside the vagina, an injection that isn't meant for extended use as far as I remember, another intrauterine device, an implant, or barriers used by either partner also come to mind.

After a period of consistent use the digestive slowdown seems to resolve itself so sticking with the same amount keeps the oral route effective. Restarting or altering the level brings back the problem though. I still think avoiding that altogether is better but yeah it does get better eventually.

Menopause is affecting me these days. This leaves me concerned about the ideal option in my situation at the moment. The vaginal ring is something I'm considering too.

Years ago I gave the ring a try. It made life simpler. The single problem occurred during intimacy. I didn't detect its presence inside, yet my partner certainly could haha.

I put this patch on my skin and swap it out after seven days with no interference from those GLP-1 medications.

My intrauterine device is in place but nobody ever mentioned anything about this possibly interfering with it.
