GLP-1 Medications and Chronic Pain Relief

Summary

Do GLP-1 drugs reduce chronic pain and inflammation?

Forum users report noticeable drops in chronic pain after starting GLP-1 medications such as tirzepatide. They link the relief mainly to lowered inflammation and reduced joint stress from weight loss, with some seeing benefits even before major weight change. Several describe better daily function, mood, and lab results that prompted doctors to encourage continuing the same approach.

Has anyone using GLP-1s noticed less chronic pain or other pain problems they have been managing?

SharpFenwick93archiveJan 20

Many people report this effect from lower inflammation.

LevelMeadow24archiveJan 20

Yes! Part of it could be less joint stress from weight loss, but the drop in inflammation has helped me a great deal. I believe they may eventually allow some patients to stop pain medications. I wish these drugs were cheaper and easier for more people to get.

My wife deals with lupus and its inflammation and pain. She started tirz in May of 25' and it has greatly improved her daily life in clear ways. She used to hurt constantly with very high inflammation markers, but since starting tirz she exercises regularly and her mood is much better. Recent blood work led her rheumatologist to tell her to continue what she is doing.

Wow, that is great to hear. I have spinal pain from a condition and have noticed some days the pain is not as bad as usual. I wondered if it was just in my head at first, but the replies here show tirz is helping in additional ways.

It eased my joint pain a lot. I have not even lost ten pounds yet, but I feel much better.

Tirz works well for my pain levels. I have not tried other options yet, but that is part of why I am here, to learn more about them.

I take tirzepatide along with a little reta to help keep the weight off. I also have ulcerative colitis with leftover abdominal pain and diarrhea even in remission, plus or minus IBS-D. I used semaglutide before, and either that or tirzepatide slowed my gut and cut the pain. It may not match the impact of losing half my body weight and changing my whole diet, but it still helped noticeably. The weight-loss side of GLP-1s eases arthritis, while the anti-inflammatory side helps many other pain issues tied to inflammation. Quite a bit of solid research supports this. Most other popular peptides lack much or any human testing, so their use stays more experimental.

My pain levels have dropped quite a bit. There's this back injury from many years back, and carrying more than a hundred extra pounds clearly made the whole situation far worse. I'm not sure if the improvement comes from less swelling, the seventy pounds I've shed, the daily GHK-cu/KPV mix I inject myself, or something else, but the difference is obvious and I'm grateful for it.

I'm really looking forward to getting it! It should arrive on Saturday. What amount do you use and how many times a day? Once daily or twice?

I use 2.75 milligrams each day from the premixed 80 milligram vials. I pay no attention to any overfill. A little extra or a little less doesn't bother me. It works out evenly to 10 units, which I like. I also don't think a larger amount would be unsafe.
