The compound in that trial is also known as ostarine, a SARM already used as a performance drug. SARMs carry many of the same risks as steroids but with less long-term data and added liver stress from oral use. It is no surprise something steroid-like helps retain muscle. Men would still suppress natural production, so testosterone or another steroid would be the more studied route.

The doses being tested are low enough that natural hormone production may not shut down. That could limit how much revenue the approach can generate. It still opens the door to the same side-effect concerns you raised.
