Three Weeks In: Only Side Effects !When Does It Start Working?

8 replies8 peopleDec 24, 2025☆ Follow
Summary

How long until retatrutide starts reducing appetite and weight, and what happens with side effects like anhedonia and fatigue?

Most users report that noticeable appetite suppression and weight loss begin between 3 and 6 mg, though some see changes in the first week when combined with a calorie deficit. Effects build gradually with continued dosing and titration, and side effects may lessen over time for some but persist for others. Individual responses vary widely, with a few needing higher doses or stacking another medication to see results.

Three weeks on this and still no drop in hunger whatsoever, plus no scale movement. Began with 1 mg the opening week then moved to 2 mg total each week from week two, given as two separate 1 mg shots. At this point it feels like the only things showing up are the downsides, mainly that flat feeling and tiredness that showed up after the latest 1 mg shot. When did the actual appetite or weight changes kick in for others? And does the flat feeling hang around the whole time or mainly right after the shots? Hope the holidays stay calm and good for everyone.

Responses differ from person to person, yet more than 85 percent see results. The odds favor most people. One person lost 115 pounds over 11 months by combining two medications and that came to 47 percent of starting body weight. At the time the months dragged, but looking back the change is huge. The main suggestion is to stay consistent with the shots and raise the amount only as fast as side effects allow. Benefits build gradually, so patience is required. The process changes things for the majority who stick with it.

The current amount is still low. Hunger control did not appear until reaching 6 mg. Side effects sometimes fade with continued use and sometimes stay. The medication itself begins acting right away even if the noticeable hunger changes take longer. Keep going.

The title gave a quick smile, though sorry about the frustration. With everything going on around the holidays, maybe I overlooked it, but was the specific medication named anywhere?

Right, the one being used is Reta.

Weight started coming off in the first week here, but a calorie deficit was also started then. Without a deficit there will be no loss. Tracking intake is the practical way to know whether a real deficit exists and to guide any dose changes. Without records it is hard to judge personal energy needs or adjust portions reliably, even though some people manage without tracking.

Counting calories is the only way to know actual intake. Working with a nutritionist through insurance and logging meals on their app showed some surprising patterns in daily eating and led to a few light moments.

Not everyone responds strongly. 2 mg produced no effect here. Changes only appeared at 6 mg and 8 mg, and even then appetite control stayed modest, so an extra 1 mg or 1.5 mg of another medication was added. Actual loss of one to two pounds per week began after three weeks.

Splitting doses looks pointless and lacks any trial support, so it may not deliver the results seen in studies. Early weeks and months mainly let the body adjust and let levels build. A slow increase works better than weekly jumps. Response to one medication came quickly, yet noticeable effects from this one required 6 mg, solid results needed 8 mg, and full satisfaction came at 12 mg.
