Weekly weight loss rates reported on GLP-1 drugs

28 replies19 peopleMar 17, 2026β˜† Follow
Summary

What weekly weight loss are people seeing while using GLP-1 agonists like tirzepatide or retatrutide?

Users report highly variable rates that often start higher and slow over months. Early losses of 1-2 kg per week are common for some, while others average 0.5 kg weekly after the first few months or experience long stalls followed by sudden drops. Training, diet changes, and individual response affect results, with emphasis on body composition rather than scale weight alone.

This is not medical advice, just my personal experience and a discussion starter about body composition while using a triple agonist. I've been trying a GLP-1/GIP/glucagon triple agonist for about nine weeks, focusing on fat loss while keeping as much muscle as I can. My main goal isn't big scale drops but better body composition. I lift weights five days a week and follow each session with 30-45 minutes of low-intensity cardio, mostly walking. Appetite suppression is strong and it makes holding a calorie deficit much easier. Energy in the gym has stayed fairly steady. Online I keep seeing people claim very fast losses, sometimes well over a kilo a week. Mine has been slower. The first few weeks

Right now I'm seeing about 1.5 kg a week across roughly sixteen weeks. Started on 2.5 mg for four weeks, moved to 5 mg for ten weeks, and have been on 7.5 mg the last two weeks.

QuietHarbour42archiveMar 17

Roughly 1.5 kg weekly while on reta.

NorthSignal42archiveMar 18

My average comes to about 1.8 pounds a week on tirz, though I tend to stall for two or three weeks and then drop five or six pounds at once, repeating that pattern.

The same pattern is happening to me at the moment; weight loss has stalled. I'm considering lowering carbohydrates for a few weeks.

That's a known thing. Fat cells pull in water as they lose fat so they stay the same size in case the shortage is temporary. They can only hold that water for a limited time before releasing it and shrinking once they realize extra calories aren't coming back. I don't know the technical name but it's usually called the whoosh effect. That's why I suggest waiting before raising the dose or making big changes to try restarting loss.

CopperAlder51archiveMar 18

2.1 kg per week across six months.

BrightSignal73archiveMar 18

Lost faster the first few weeks, around 1.5 kg a week. After six months it's closer to 0.5 kg weekly on 12 mg reta. I'm generally resistant to medications, so cagri needs 1.5 mg before I notice anything and most pain meds don't work well either.

PlainAnchor84archiveMar 18

On 10 mg tirz plus 4 mg reta I'm seeing about 1.5 lbs a week. I'm lowering the tirz dose while adjusting to reta.

AmberMarble84archiveMar 18

Average of 0.5 kg per week on tirz and reta. Sema did nothing. Perimenopause makes it harder, but I've still lost 21 kg total and I'm satisfied.

What's your current body-fat percentage? The rate sounds reasonable.

I have no idea. I'm female, went from 86 kg down to 65 kg, but still have fat rolls. Planning a dexa scan eventually.

CopperAlder25archiveMar 18

Oops my mistake there! Really happy you've managed to drop those pounds.

PatientThistle39archiveMar 18

1 kg total in the first two months on tirze. Now 0.5 kg per week after eight months on 5 mg weekly reta. Highest tirze dose was 7.5 mg weekly.

SteadyTimber49archiveMar 18

Shotsy shows a weekly average of 2.4 lbs, though it was more like 3-4 lbs early on and now only 0.25 lbs. The closer I get to goal the slower it becomes. Dropped from 205 lbs to 150 lbs in four months, then 150 to 145 in five weeks, and much slower since.

IronBramble31archiveMar 18

2.3 lbs a week for 65 weeks, totaling about 150 lbs. Used tirz and switched to reta for the final 25 lbs.

NorthBeacon16archiveMar 18

Shotsy shows 1.6 kg per week on average across about fifteen weeks so far.

LevelThistle44archiveMar 18

Averaging 2.8 lb per week since 12/12/25, which is 13.7 weeks.

PlainTimber26archiveMar 18

Six weeks in at 3.75 tirz and averaging 1.6 pounds a week. It feels slow but I know it's the better pace.

Ten weeks in now. We started a lower-carb approach when beginning reta at 2 mg and are currently on 5 mg. Seeing right around 2.5 lbs a week. My wife won't weigh herself.

That's some serious slimming you've done there. Awesome achievement!

I'm in week nine. For the first four or five weeks I tried low-carb but had to raise carbs again because I felt exhausted, workouts suffered, sleep was poor, and everything felt bad. Fat loss was quicker though. How are you handling the low-carb diet?

PlainAlder11archiveMar 18
↳ replying to @CopperAlder25

We're doing fine, still eating carbs but choosing better ones. I have a few beers a day because I enjoy them, so I'm not being extreme and still living normally. No problems that I notice.

WarmMarble75archiveMar 18

A little over 2 lbs per week on average, including the fast start. Closer to 1.5 lbs weekly now. Two scans with the methreesixty app have helped me see actual body changes and keep me from getting impatient.

AmberTimber24archiveMar 18

About 1 kg each week with little or no exercise, around 2 kg each week when doing sports seven days and keeping food at most 800 calories.

SteadyLedger26archiveMar 18

Week 50 on tirz. First ten weeks: 2.1 lbs/week from 245 to 224. Next ten: 0.9 lb/week from 224 to 215. Next ten: 1.2 lb/week from 215 to 203. Next ten: 0.5 lb/week from 203 to 198. Next ten: 0.7 lb/week from 198 to 191. Currently stalled between 190-191 for the last six weeks.

NorthCinder50archiveMar 18

Started around 1 kg average for a couple weeks, then 0.5 kg later. I was already in normal BMI range when I began. Lost 15 kg on GLP-1 after already losing 15 kg before. Now at 55 kg and stable for a while, BMI 18. Body fat around 17 %. Female, early 40s.
