NAD Injections Causing Short-Term Tiredness Instead of Energy

7 replies4 peopleSep 24, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Why does injecting NAD sometimes cause short-term fatigue rather than energy, and does that mean it's not worth using?

Several users report initial tiredness or feeling overwhelmed right after NAD injections, especially at higher single doses, while others experience overall energy and mood benefits once they titrate up slowly from low starting amounts. One explanation offered is that larger doses can temporarily strain methylation capacity if B-vitamin status is low, leading to brief fatigue that passes. Gradual dose increases and adding methylated folate plus B vitamins are suggested to reduce the negative reaction.

Whether the short-term tiredness indicates NAD is unsuitable long-term for certain individuals.

Nothing here is advice.

I was hoping NAD would give me energy since I'm nearly 60 and have read that other people get instant energy from injecting it. Instead I feel tired and fatigued right after, and it lasts maybe 20-40 minutes before I feel normal again. At 200 mg it was much worse with headache and dizziness and I almost fainted, so now I stick to 75 mg and have finished my first 1000 mg bottle. I've seen that some people react this way. Does that mean NAD isn't good for me? For others who take NAD, does it give instant energy or short-term tiredness like I'm getting?

Quite a few folks report feeling more tired when taking bigger daily amounts in the 250-500 milligram range, and some may also require extra methylated folate plus B vitamins to feel better. To check the situation I got tests for B12, folate, homocysteine, ferritin, CBC and TSH levels. When the body clears extra nicotinamide from NAD+ breakdown by methylating it, that pulls methyl groups from SAM-e which uses the pathway relying on folate, B12, B6, riboflavin and betaine. So doses over 200 milligrams could strain methylation if folate and B vitamins are low, causing fatigue or brain fog sometimes. Being my first time with NAD+, 200 milligrams at once was pretty high so I kept below 100 milligrams the first week to see how I reacted.

I'm on a 100 mg dose three times per week now and feel fantastic. But I started from 25 mg the first week, then 50 mg another week and then 100 mg. I think that's enough and I'm not going to increase any more until I finish the cycle. I think your dose is too high and would try lowering it and see how it goes.

Do you feel fantastic right after you take the NAD?

Only the methylated type of folate plus B vitamins.

Ever since beginning my NAD+ cycling routine, I've experienced heightened energy levels, increased strength, and a more positive outlook that persists all day. Immediately following the injection, I sense a mild feeling of being overstimulated, yet this sensation fades away in about five to ten minutes.

Today marks the beginning of my new regimen using 25 milligrams of NAD+. Visited the rock climbing facility and experienced an outstanding workout after quite a while. This coincides with my initial month instructing ninth-grade students, a demanding and exhausting period. At 51 years of age as well. For several months now I've been taking B vitamin supplements following lab results that indicated a deficiency in B12.
