Month 3 update.

Summary

How does splitting doses help with returning hunger on GLP-1 meds and what changes in loss rate as weight drops?

One user reports reaching 238 lbs after 40 lbs lost in three months after splitting doses to curb late-week hunger and food noise, also shifting to 6-day cycles. Others note they see the same pattern and plan to try splitting before raising the dose. The group agrees loss naturally slows from around 10 lbs monthly early on to lower amounts as BMI falls, due to reduced fluid and inflammation, without the medication failing, and stresses watching muscle with protein and exercise.

Hey folks, here's my update for month three. I've reached 238 pounds, which means I've lost 40 pounds total. Pretty good progress. The main adjustment I made was dividing up my dose because I noticed hunger and food thoughts returning in the final couple of days, and that change made a difference.

Good job! I might split my own dose too. I also see food noise increasing near the end of the week. I'll give splitting a shot before increasing the amount.

Congratulations! I've thought about splitting the dose or taking it every 5 days instead of 7. How are you spacing yours out these days?

Right, I should mention I switched to 6-day cycles with the split doses starting after week two, since dosing every three days is simpler that way. Then I increased to 10, and it worked well.

Solid results there, well done. Just watch your muscle retention though, especially losing more than two pounds weekly, because tracking that is key along with enough protein and proper workouts. Keep going strong.

Actually the guideline is one percent of body weight rather than a flat two pounds weekly, so at his current size going above two pounds a week is still fine for now.

You're right, that's a good observation. Mind if I call you My Lady? It's also true that early on with higher BMI there's safe fluid loss too, which can create problems later. As you approach normal BMI the rate slows and folks might think the medication stopped working, but I dropped weight quicker when my BMI was above 30. It should slow naturally. I wasn't suggesting any risk, just that paying attention to muscle is wise.

From 242 down to 175 I was dropping a steady ten pounds each month while moving from obese into overweight range. Now about fifteen pounds away from healthy BMI, last month it was only six pounds. The pace does slow as expected, likely due to less inflammation overall, and the medication is still effective without any dose increase for the near future. Since I weigh less now the safe rate has to be lower but I'm still within the half to one percent range so I should accept that even if it's not what I want.
