Reta progress slowing after 2 months: increase dose or stay patient?

14 replies10 peopleMar 29, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Should I raise my retatrutide dose when weight loss stalls after two months at 4 mg?

The thread shows mixed advice on handling a stall: some recommend titrating up when side effects are absent, while others advise holding steady or even eating at maintenance if body-composition goals matter more than scale weight. Several users report that stalls often trace to water retention from other peptides or temporary plateaus that resolve without dose changes. The original poster clarifies via DEXA that he is already near goal weight and needs recomp rather than further loss.

A 53-year-old male reports nearly two months on reta with a 7 kg drop so far. This is his first peptide run and he is now at 4 mg per week after starting at 0.5 mg and increasing faster than planned. He maintains a calorie deficit, lifts two or three times weekly, and adds some cardio. Food noise has dropped and consistency improved, producing solid early results, yet the last ten days or so show almost no movement despite the deficit. He asks whether to raise the dose toward 6 mg or hold steady and wait longer. At 4 mg he has almost no sides beyond mild constipation, and appetite effects remain strong. A recent DEXA scan, though done after starting, indicated he still needs to shift fat to lean mass.

Without side effects at a low dose the straightforward move is to go higher.

After stalling for the first time the second pin at 6 mg was done on Friday. From the 20th to the 27th there was no loss and the scale showed nothing the next morning. Average loss had been around 2.5 lb per week before that.

Dose was raised from 2 mg to 4 mg for the final 7-10 lb. The lower dose worked well for 11 weeks but loss slowed and larger portions plus pizza became harder to skip. Carbs were added while staying in deficit, yet empty ones felt off compared with beans, sweet potato, and whole proteins.

What is the target weight? If body composition matters more than scale weight then raising the dose may not fit the goal.

ClearKettle41archiveMar 30

Dose is increased after a stall lasting a week or two with no sides present. Water weight should be ruled out first; in this case CJC-1295/Ipamorelin cycling has caused retention and scale swings.

The original goal was 4-5 kg below current weight. The DEXA scan instead shows correct weight already, so the task is now to reduce fat and increase lean mass. Lifting has started but only a few months ago after a lifetime of being thin.

It comes down to personal priorities. Faster loss does not appear needed for health and may not help current body-composition aims. If reta still aids diet consistency then effort can stay on training instead of raising the dose. With only 5 kg left there is no rush, since building muscle will take longer than dropping the remaining fat. Grey-market flexibility allows testing 5-6 mg one week and dropping back if sides appear.

Last week the scale matched the prior Friday. The second 6 mg pin was done on Friday. Body-fat reading dropped 0.2 percent. Another check is planned tomorrow.

The link between CJC and water retention was new information. A recent spreadsheet check showed the stall timing matches the CJC cycle exactly.

Update: 2.4 lb came off between Friday and the next check. Most of it was water from high-salt intake earlier.

The cycle is not finished yet, but reports indicate water weight drops quickly once stopped. A 4-5 lb loss is expected at the end.

At 53 and already at goal weight around 73 kg the dose should stay put. The glucagon effect can continue burning fat without further weight loss. The remaining work is dietary. At 61 and 170 lb with 12 percent body fat an evening fasted CJC-1295/Ipamorelin run was added near goal to support muscle gain along with high protein intake.

Slow titration down to the lowest effective reta dose such as 0.5-0.75 mg is advised so metabolism can settle at the new level. Rapid or cold-turkey stops are linked to rebound in people who never addressed the original drivers of weight gain. A form of PCT using other peptides to manage hunger and fat oxidation could be considered during the taper.

When a stall hits the recommended step is to eat at maintenance calories for a couple of weeks then return to the deficit. Metabolism runs the show and sometimes needs that reset to resume progress.
