Tirz vs Reta

22 replies11 peopleJan 28, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Tirzepatide or retatrutide for losing 10-15 kg while exercising and keeping muscle?

Most participants recommend starting with tirzepatide for its longer safety record and strong appetite control, then adding or switching to retatrutide later if progress stalls. Retatrutide is praised for preserving lean mass via glucagon activity and allowing faster fat loss without worse sides for some users, though others report better tolerance on tirzepatide. Dosing can be adjusted on either to control speed of loss. Several people note they combine or switch based on personal response and upcoming goals.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether the extra cost and unknown long-term safety of reta are worth the potential lean-mass benefit over tirzepatide.

Still open

How much muscle is actually preserved by retatrutide versus tirzepatide in real-world use with resistance training.

Nothing here is advice.

New here and looking for opinions that haven't come up before. Late twenties, female, lift regularly but the last bit of weight won't budge, so I'm looking into GLP options. Torn between reta and tirz because the fast drop on reta worries me in terms of loose skin, while tirz looks slower and I'm afraid that means weaker results. Sema is an option too but I want to keep muscle. Any thoughts for someone aiming to drop 10-15 kg while still training?

Food intake ends up limited either way. Appetite disappears but you still have to force protein in and stick to a plan. These compounds give you the choice. Also, the main fat loss happens when you're lifting heavy on either one. Just look into whichever fits your budget and check the trial results.

Start with tirz and move to reta only if you stall or the fatigue sticks around. Tirzepatide works very well for many and we have years of safety information. Reta looks promising and I have some put away, but we don't have the same long-term data yet. With demand this high something unsafe eventually shows up, so I'd rather begin with the one that already has a track record.

Both hit GLP and GIP for appetite and insulin effects. Reta also hits glucagon, which helps keep muscle and raises metabolism. You can still control how fast the weight comes off by adjusting the dose on either. I've pushed fairly hard without nausea becoming an issue; if the rate gets too steep I just eat more or lower the dose.

I appreciate the thorough reply you gave. It has helped me understand everything much better. I share the same view and now feel more confident selecting the GLP option with extensive long-term testing. Wishing you success on your path ahead.

Tirz works perfectly for me: hunger is lowered but not gone, food noise disappears, and no sides. After a year on it I'm adding a bit of reta to finish the last 10 lb before a work event. Sides show up with reta (nausea after eating, feeling cold) but they're manageable for six weeks. Then I'll go back to tirz only.

I'm eager for when those constant food thoughts finally disappear. Totally understand where you're coming from and would likely react the same way, haha. Wondering what your total weight loss has been over the past year? Glad to hear starting this addition is going well right now, aside from the side effects which seem tolerable. I can see myself maybe trying it later on. This info has been really helpful. Appreciate it! You'll definitely impress everyone at the upcoming team event.

Tirz has been working really well for me. In roughly four weeks I've dropped close to ten pounds with solid progress so far. I never ran into the stomach issues some folks mentioned, and that feels like a relief. I'll probably start trying other peptides before long.

Started on sema for almost a year and a half and only dropped 15 lb while feeling overly full. Food noise was reduced but not like it is on tirz. Since switching I've lost another 20 lb. Hit a stall around June and now just hover within a few pounds. You'll probably be happy with tirz too, and once you know how your body responds you can decide on any changes. I could raise the tirz dose instead of adding reta, but I already know how tirz controls hunger and noise so I don't see the point. Reta is only temporary for me.

High-dose tirz over 10 mg hit me hard. Shot at night and the next three days felt like being run over; couldn't eat or drink much and still didn't lose. Reta has none of that. I moved up quickly from 2 mg to 10 mg and sides stayed minimal. Reta is absolute magic for me.

60-year-old male, 6 ft, started at 201 lb and reached 170 in three months on 2.5 mg weekly. Effectiveness dropped once I hit goal, so I switched to 2 mg reta while keeping protein high. Losing 15 kg will cause loose skin either way. Reta should hold a bit more muscle. Start with standard weekly dosing and wait four weeks before any increase so levels stabilize.

That's excellent news. I'm thrilled about how well things turned out for you. I'm sure I'll go for the same choice now.

It appears you've nailed this routine tailored to your physique. I wish my own experience turns out just like that. Grateful for the suggestions all over again.

Excellent! Wishing you a positive time with it. In addition, starting off with tiny doses appeared to assist me too. Began using one point two five milligrams during the first fourteen days, moving up to one point five for the following two weeks, and then two point five for another fourteen days. Planning to remain at that amount as long as I keep noticing changes.

That choice appeals most to me since it really helps keep hunger in check.

Started with tirzepatide because I didn't know about retatrutide yet and bought a large stock. If I were beginning now I'd still pick tirzepatide first for the FDA approval and longer safety data, which gives more peace of mind even with minor sides.

Beginning treatment using that medication looks okay in my view. It remains much less costly than the alternative one. I realize a bunch of people in the group laugh about government clearances, but should that hold importance for someone, both this and the other one seem like decent choices to consider.

LevelThistle44archiveJan 29

The price gap isn't huge once buying in volume. At the top trial doses the weekly difference is only a couple dollars. That small extra cost is worth it to me for the estimated lean-mass retention from the glucagon effect and better training energy. After the same total weight loss I'd expect to have several pounds more fat on tirz than on reta. My heart-rate data during walks also improved once reta was added.

QuietTimber26archiveJan 29

Yeah, your point on the costs seems reasonable. Maybe the gap isn't quite as wide as I claimed, and I probably made it sound bigger than it is.

WarmThistle66archiveJan 29

Haven't tried reta but mounjaro has been life-changing with no sides and normal hunger control. Sema did nothing for me. Since reta is supposed to be even stronger, starting on mounjaro lets you step up later and could stretch the tirz phase for well over a year with slow increases.

That comment really stands out. The sense of security is exactly why I feel the same way.
