Switching from compound to gray market

Summary

How to keep using tirzepatide or similar under doctor supervision while moving away from standard compounded or brand options?

Forum users describe telling their doctors they obtain compounded versions through mail-order or telehealth services without revealing full details of the source. Some keep medication notes in records by letting prescriptions be sent but ignoring them, while others have doctors increase bloodwork monitoring after mentioning a switch. Approaches vary from partial honesty to minimal discussion.

Hello everyone, I've been on compounded tirzepatide for several months and seen strong results. With the patenting of multi-use vials and typical pharma practices, I'm worried about ongoing availability. I want to stay under my doctor's and dietitian's care but skip the high costs. Has anyone used a third-party provider for compounded or gray market versions, and how did you discuss it with your doctor?

I let my doctor know I'm getting compounded versions from a mail order service and leave it at that. We'd already discussed that brand-name pharmacy options were unaffordable, so she expected off-label use. I just don't mention that I'm handling the compounding myself.

I also like having my doctor monitor me on tirzepatide, especially to have it noted in my records. I haven't actually talked to her about it though. She sends the prescriptions somewhere and I just delete the messages that come through. Whenever she checks if I want another one I tell her no thanks I'm set. It may not be the smartest approach but it seems to work so far.

My issue is with reta. The only above-board route would be joining a clinical trial group. Oh well...

That sounds like the simplest approach. Thanks.

I told my doctor I was taking tirz through a telehealth provider. Later I said I had switched to compounded reta. He increased my quarterly blood work for trt and is watching the results.
