LEAN bulking phase

13 replies10 peopleMay 1, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

How long should you stay at maintenance after a cut before starting a lean bulk with GLP-1s, and which peptides support muscle growth and performance without TRT?

The thread shows most people see little need for a long maintenance phase and instead favor a small controlled surplus while tracking calories closely. Several suggest keeping a reduced dose of the GLP-1 rather than stopping it, and opinions split on whether peptides alone deliver worthwhile muscle gains compared with HGH or avoiding TRT entirely at a young age. Users share personal stacks and caution about fertility and lifelong dependence when considering TRT.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether any maintenance period is useful at all, how effective peptides are for actual muscle growth versus HGH or test, and if TRT should be ruled out at age 29.

Still open

Which specific peptides give the best return for gym performance and lean mass without TRT.

Nothing here is advice.

Still cutting and using Reta to stay on target with calories. After training for years it's time to see the results. Close to my goal body-fat percentage and now thinking about maintenance and what comes next. Plan is to sit at 10-12% through summer then move into a lean bulk starting October. Last year I jumped straight into bulking and just added fat all winter because I didn't know about peptides then. Looking for thoughts on how long to hold maintenance for the best shot at staying lean, how to run a lean bulk after GLP-1 use, and which peptides help most with muscle growth and performance without going the TRT route.

Depends on age. Under 40 I would consider HGH, over 40 TRT. Same situation here, aiming to be lean by June and start bulking around September. The peptides that actually build muscle cost too much for the small gains they give compared with test or HGH. I would not stop the GLP-1 completely. Most bodybuilders just lower the dose so hunger is still there for protein but the other benefits remain. Maybe try a microdosing approach.

Time spent between phases does not matter much. A week or two is enough. What counts is tracking calories tightly and keeping the surplus small. You will likely add at least three or four pounds just from refilling glycogen and water when you switch. For a lean bulk the usual approach is a 4:1 to 6:1 ratio of bulk weeks to cut weeks. So for every four to six weeks bulking you should be able to cut that back in roughly one week at a moderate deficit. A 150-calorie daily surplus over four months adds about five pounds that can be lost in a month. Repeat and you get slightly leaner each cycle. Use the 6:1 ratio if you do not want to get any leaner. Always factor in the water and glycogen shifts on transitions.

Very interesting, never heard of that ratio before but it really makes sense.

Just curious why you want to skip the TRT route. TRT has worked well for me on keeping and adding lean muscle depending on the mix of Reta, Tesa, and calories. It feels like a trifecta and I do not understand why more people are not using it.

Same here, though I am 55. Current stack is 230 mg test, 8 mg Reta, 1 mg Cagri, 500 mcg BPC twice a day, and TB 2.5 mg on Monday and Thursday. Added Cagri a few months ago because Reta stopped controlling hunger and higher doses only caused side effects like 24-hour hiccups and restless sleep. Once Cagri started working the plateau broke and I am losing one to two pounds a week again. Just went up to 1 mg two weeks ago and plan to drop Reta to 6 mg to reduce the hiccups and improve sleep.

Maybe I am not informed enough but it scares me. I am 29, in good shape, and do not want to interfere with my natural production. I do not want to be on something for life. I do not have kids yet and that is a goal, so fertility matters. I know when I get older I will probably look at it then.

After doing this a long time I have found no length of maintenance makes staying lean easier. It comes down to solid discipline, though low-dose Reta helps. Without TRT, others will mention peptides that raise test levels, which seem like the next best option for adding muscle once everything else is in place. HGH at low doses will not do much unless IGF is already somewhat low.

Maintenance after a cut is not really needed. Just keep the diet clean and calories near maintenance. For the lean bulk after GLP-1 use, know your TDEE and run about 300 calories above it. No special trick, just keep the surplus controlled and intentional. Use a food-tracking app, weigh everything, stay consistent and there is nothing to worry about. For peptides, enclomiphene plus HGH can raise testosterone without suppressing natural production. Main side effect is minor bloating from aromatization. HGH at 2-4 IU daily works well for most.

I already track calories in a deficit. Once I hit my goal body fat I plan to add roughly 100 calories each week to bring metabolism back up. I will monitor weight weekly and adjust if it is too much or too little. Started CJC-1295/ipamorelin this week for better recovery during the cut. Not familiar with enclomiphene yet so I will look into it. Thanks for the suggestions.

At 29 stay away from TRT. It is for life. If you are healthy your levels should already be normal. If you decide to try something else, do the research first.

WarmAlder51archiveMay 2

Peptides are not really for muscle growth. Trying to use them that way leads to slow results. Anabolics, test, and HGH are what actually do that, along with hard gym work.

Agree. Check levels first and try to raise them naturally. That improves life in many ways. I am 36 with naturally high T and no plan to start TRT. Might consider HGH in a few years but for now I am happy with peptides. They do not speed up muscle growth much but they help keep diet on track and speed recovery.

I would avoid TRT at 29 with no kids yet. In my late 40s my free T was in the 120s so TRT has been great and I do not mind staying on it. I feel much younger, stronger, and more alert. HGH would probably be the better choice now along with creatine, weights, and high protein intake.
