Summary

How are people handling maintenance doses and weight stability after reaching goal on tirzepatide and similar compounds?

Users who have hit their targets describe gradually lowering tirzepatide from high weekly doses while tracking weight and appetite closely. Several in their early 60s report success staying within a few pounds of goal by adjusting doses, shifting to mindset changes around food, or adding small amounts of other peptides like retatrutide. Most emphasize monitoring to avoid further loss or regain, with some noting improved body composition even at steady weight.

I've hit my target weight now and am figuring out what comes next. Luckily I still have a large supply of Tirz plus some other items that caught my eye sitting in the lab freezer. My idea is to ease the weekly dose down from 15 mg while keeping an eye on the scale. If 15 mg weekly turns out to be what I need to hold steady, that's okay, but there's a real chance of going too far the other way. At 64 I don't want to become a frail old man who's too thin, and I'm only about 15 pounds from that point. It would be helpful to have a place for people to post about how they're keeping the weight off.

Not a doctor by any means, but if it was me I'd begin lowering the dose while watching weight and hunger signals very closely. I think you could land on a noticeably smaller amount that keeps you stable and just use the GLP to manage appetite without dropping any further.

My situation is pretty close to that. I'm 63 and finally at goal weight too. The issue for me is I'm on a high tirz dose of 20 mg every five days and the scale has stopped moving. I'm worried that cutting back will make the weight come back on. I just started adding Mazdutide so maybe I can drop the tirz without regaining. Hunger feels lower already so I'm going to try reducing it. Staying on the high tirz doesn't bother me but I'm unsure how safe that is long term.

A few months on and I'm still holding at 175 pounds. I'm still taking 15 mg of tirz but a couple of things have changed. The weight has redistributed in a good way. My belt is now two notches tighter and the belly fat is almost gone. I'm planning to start lowering the dose but it's good to be able to set my own pace without worrying about high costs or getting a doctor to agree.

I'm 63 and basically reached goal while only going up to 6 mg of tirz every five days. My body quit losing on its own back in late November. Since then I've been able to move it to 5 mg every six or seven days. I still check my weight fairly often because I'm worried about putting it back on. I've considered adding a tiny bit of Reta to stack with it, maybe lowering the tirz on Monday and doing a small Reta dose on Thursday. A lot of people seem to do that and it might stretch out what I have left. Still thinking it over.

Thanks for the update and congrats on holding the same weight for the last three months, that's great. I can't wait until I reach goal and can ease up on the strict calorie deficit a bit. Over those months did you try lowering the dose or did you just stay at 15 mg the whole time? Back at the end of October it sounded like you were going to start then.

I'm in the same spot. 60-year-old male, 6'0" at 172 lbs. My goal was 170 and I got there, now I'm finally putting some muscle back on. I moved to a low dose of retatrutide to see if I can get body fat down from 14% to 10 or 12%. I've always stayed active so I'm curious how this plays out but I'm definitely not losing any more muscle.

I've been working on treating food as just fuel. I still enjoy going out for some junk food and a few beers now and then but it's more of an occasional treat. I've started adding lots of spices to everyday meals because that feels as satisfying as eating bigger portions. I'm also trying to notice the odd idea of celebrating a weight-loss win by eating more. I'm not judging anyone but losing interest in snacks or beer when I'm bored has had the side effect that the idea of going wild at a buffet with no downside doesn't even appeal anymore. I'll keep weighing every day and tweak what I'm doing to stay at 175. If I can get to zero dose that's fine; if I need a maintenance dose that's fine too since I have plenty on hand.

62-year-old male here. I've been at goal weight since October last year. I went up to 7.5 tirz and started stacking survo early in September because I was getting close to goal and didn't want to raise the tirz any higher, plus I was trying to keep or build lean muscle. Since the end of October my stack has stayed at 7.5 T and 1.8 S and I've stayed within about 3 lbs of goal the whole time, which is good enough for me. That line you wrote is exactly what I'm after. I enjoy food and eat well, and the urge to keep eating past a couple bites just to kill time has faded. It's pretty great. Congrats.

I reached the bottom of my goal range at 175 plus or minus 5. I'm finally dropping from 15 mg Tirz down to 12.5. I'll hold there for four weeks and watch what happens. I've decided I'll never let myself go above 200 again. Everyday life feels much better, from airplane seats to clothes fitting and not sensing that silent judgment from thinner people. All my health numbers like blood pressure are normal now with no prescriptions, which is an extra win. Last Friday I had to run the full length of the Denver airport concourse. At 64 I still couldn't match the 35-year-olds but my knees didn't hurt at all the way they would have at 265. I'm looking forward to lowering the dose more.

These high costs are really frustrating since average people can't get their hands on them anymore. It would be great to have an area for discussing care experiences. That's something I've thought about myself. I'm not at the point of needing any care yet, but I'm interested in learning about successful methods others use.

68 here, turning 69 next week. I recently stopped losing on tirz at 10 mg per week and couldn't drop the last 5 to 8 lbs. Adding some reta made a big difference.

CopperSignal27archiveFeb 23

I've hit goal weight a few times. At first I just wanted to lose 20 or 30 kilos so walking and shopping would be easier. I got there in early 2023 at 115 from 145 kg. Then I kept going because it was working and reached 80 kg late that year, which took care of the main health risks and left me thinner than I'd been for most of my life. I stopped losing around 75 kg and stayed near there for about a year. Keeping close to that long term would be great. After trying semaglutide to make dieting easier I moved to tirzepatide, added reta, and got down to half my starting weight at 72.5 kg in Sept 25. Now at 66 kg with a BMI of 23.6 the only target left might be 64.9 kg, the lowest I reached in 2014. The continued slow drop suggests the GLPs could help keep the weight off over time. Despite my mother's worries I don't think I'm likely to develop anorexia at 58.

Same thing is happening to me. Progress stopped at the 7.5 mg level with tirz, and mild nausea shows up occasionally. That's the reason I've skipped any dose increase. How much reta got added in, and what effects appeared afterward?

SharpAlder88archiveFeb 23
↳ replying to @GreenLantern78

I was on 10 mg tirz then added 2 mg reta for two weeks and 3 mg the third week while cutting tirz to 8 mg. It worked well.

Did that get you past the stall? That's what I'm hoping for.
