How Long People Stay on Each Tirzepatide Dose

Summary

How long do people typically stay on each tirzepatide dose before moving up?

Users report staying anywhere from 4 weeks minimum up to many months on a given dose, often guided by weight loss progress, side effects, and stabilization of blood levels. Several stayed 4 weeks at the starting doses then extended time at 7.5 mg or higher, while others remained at 5 mg for nearly a year and still achieved substantial loss. A few reached goal on low doses without ever increasing, and one noted that blood levels continue rising for four weeks after any increase.

Hi, I was scrolling TikTok looking at other women who lost weight on tirz. Tomorrow I am finally moving up because I am stalling and most people here suggested it. I want to know how long everyone stayed on each dose. So far I did 4 weeks at 2.5, 11 weeks at 5, and 1 week at 6. I hoped 6 would help but nothing happened, so I guess the doses are structured that way for a reason. I will try 7.5 next and see. Everything else is fine except the constipation is really annoying, so I might start making those chia puddings again like when I used to count calories.

I also tried just one week at 6 mg before moving straight to 7.5. Here is the schedule I followed and the weight I lost across 31 weeks. Goal reached in April 2025, total 63 lb down. This morning I was at 160 lb for a 66 lb total loss. 5'9" male.

Sounds like a pretty common experience then. Hey again, you are the one whose table idea I copied. Good to see you. Mine still has no colors but I really hope 7.5 will finally get me past the 77s. I am finished with this stall.

For tirz I did the usual 4 weeks at 2.5 mg and 4 weeks at 5 mg. Then about 4 months at 7.5 mg before moving up to 10 mg.

I stayed on whatever dose I chose for at least 4 weeks so levels could stabilize. Four to six weeks also gives a decent window to see how the weight loss is going.

I hold my intake steady until I have no choice but to adjust.

And how much weight did you lose during that time?

About 50 pounds total. I am also eating low carb along with the tirz. Not sure about your age or gender, but I have heard women in peri or menopause often need higher doses because of lower estrogen.

Ten weeks at 2.5 mg, then 47 weeks at 5 mg. Now on 5 mg for maintenance after losing 88 pounds.

I stayed at 2.5 mg the whole time and went from 258 down to 150 pounds. For the last 8 pounds I added 2 mg of reta because I already had some, not because I needed it. I have kept the weight off for over a year now while staying on 2.5 mg of tirz.

I kept to 4 weeks per dose while titrating up at first. Once I reached a dose I liked, I have occasionally moved up or down by 1 mg without waiting the full 4 weeks. This is mostly with tirzepatide. Right now I am on 6 mg tirz plus 2 mg reta. With reta I change in 0.5 mg steps and still wait 4 weeks. I am trying not to push the total of both much higher if I can avoid it. Some weeks I feel terrible and other weeks I feel fine but get hungry. Hard to find a perfect balance.

After any dose increase, blood levels keep rising for another 4 weeks, which is why the standard schedule moves doses every 4 weeks. Everyone should check out the GLP1 plotter. If you want to lose 25 % or more, or if you are older or have high blood pressure or blood sugar issues, going up to the maximum doses is probably smart as long as side effects allow. Full doses have been shown to help more with blood pressure, prediabetes, and heart disease than lower ones, and that benefit is not only from the weight loss. If weight is coming off too fast then lower the dose. Otherwise adjust based on whether you are getting the effects you want or running into side effects, hunger, or inability to eat enough.

I think I went too slow: 6 weeks at 2.5, 6 weeks at 5, 5 weeks at 7.5, 5 weeks at 10, and now 8 weeks steady at 12 mg. Lost 50 lb so far.

Started tirz at 2.5 mg on Feb 1 2026, then two weeks later went to 5 mg and felt nothing. Around then I got my first order of tirz and reta. I wanted something to kick in so I went straight to 10 mg tirz and 5 mg reta split Monday and Thursday. No sides, stayed on that until last week. Lost 70 lb. Last week I moved to 12 and 6 because I thought a little extra might help with the final 20 lb, though I did not really need it.

I have lost 32 % of my starting weight on just 5 mg of tirzepatide. Jumping to the highest dose right away is a good way to get side effects.
