Dealing with side effects

Summary

how long do brain fog, daytime tiredness, nighttime insomnia and lack of motivation last after raising a reta dose and what helps them

Most users report the cluster of fatigue, brain fog and flat motivation appears right after a dose increase and fades within a few weeks once the body adapts. Electrolytes, steady hydration, adequate protein or carbs, and slower titration are the measures repeatedly credited with easing the symptoms. A few people still feel the effects at higher doses or need to drop back temporarily. The original poster noted clear improvement by the second week at the new dose.

Been enjoying the time here and learning a lot, feels good to have found the spot. That said, things took a turn after I moved from 1 to 2 mg. The last few days I went from feeling great to just off. Brain fog is there and nothing seems to matter much. I am wiped out while trying to work yet wide awake when bedtime comes. Wondering how much of this fades as I adjust and how much might stick around. Others have mentioned the same issues so I am sure of the cause, just not sure on the timeline or fixes. Still planning to keep going because of the kid on the way.

Welcome and congrats on the baby coming. With tirz I needed energy drinks the first couple months because the tiredness was constant. Around week 16 that daily drag eased up for me, though I still get a short lag right after any dose bump. Electrolytes the day of the shot, solid hydration, and enough protein all helped. I kept using coffee or similar drinks to push through.

GreyAlder39archiveJul 16

Add electrolytes and check blood pressure since low pressure shows up often. Most of the bothersome effects faded for me inside four or five weeks. For the tiredness I have used a few compounds that some say help depending on age and health. Search the forum for more reports.

Might try swapping some meals for protein shakes since they sit easier and avoid the later energy drop. Egg-white protein works best for me.

This pattern is pretty common. Look up anhedonia and check the recent threads on mental health and reta or the one about feeling flat and exhausted. Search the board with words like fatigue, brain fog, or motivation for more.

Could be from eating too much early in the day. Try smaller amounts in the morning and more later.

When I began I only wanted food in the morning and felt sick at the thought of eating at night.

SharpCinder28archiveJul 16

If energy is the problem, starch and carbs can help more than extra protein because the brain runs on glucose. Nootropics are another option some use.

PlainAlder11archiveJul 16

I never had the early issues but later on I had stretches with no drive. It passed on its own. I agree carbs matter when intake is low overall, and I kept up electrolytes too.

CopperPebble51archiveJul 17

Remember this is not a race. Only raise the dose after two weeks of no more weight loss, and then only by half a milligram. That approach can limit how rough the adjustment feels. Congrats on the baby.

LevelWillow41archiveJul 17

How long were you at 1 mg before moving up, and how long at 2 mg now? I went through a stretch of feeling drained while my body got used to far fewer calories.

SlowLedger31archiveJul 17

When daytime tiredness hits I add more carbs, sweet potatoes especially. The flat feeling may ease or could get stronger with higher doses. Drink more water than you think you need. Once energy is steadier, add gym and cardio so you do not end up looking overly thin.

Thanks, good to hear most of it should pass. I probably am not drinking enough water and that seemed to help when I tried. Protein is already solid. Might add some caffeine beyond my usual black coffee. Bone broth worked better than big meals for dinner. Will test eating lighter in the morning even though I worry about total intake. No nausea here. Carbs have not been heavily cut so that may not be the cause, but I will watch it. Glad to know it cleared up for others.

SlowLedger31archiveJul 17

Watch the caffeine because resting heart rate can rise on this, sometimes noticeably.

LevelWillow41archiveJul 17

It accumulates over time so three weeks in you are still very early in the adjustment.

GreyTimber24archiveJul 20

By the second 2 mg dose the earlier sides seem to have faded, so marking it as temporary for anyone searching later.

GreySparrow64archiveJul 20

Same here, no drive to do anything. Started at 1 mg and lowered again, hoping it passes.

SharpAlder96archiveJul 20

Electrolytes made the biggest difference for my brain fog, sluggishness, and poor sleep. A shortage of magnesium, sodium, or potassium can hit hard.

Did the jump happen because weight loss stalled? Strong hunger control might mean the dose is high. Try 1.5 mg next time and see. I never needed more than 2 mg until the final pounds and even then losses came fast.

As noted earlier the sides have already lifted. Brain fog and lack of interest are gone, appetite feels balanced, and mindless eating has dropped. Still get hungry but cravings are minimal so staying a few hundred calories under maintenance feels fine. Will only raise again after four weeks if needed, and 2 mg seems like a workable level for now.

How long have you been on it? Your body probably needs more time, maybe hold the lower amount another two weeks before trying to go back up. Keep food intake steady, hit protein goals, and treat this as help for building better habits. Expect some effects with each increase.

QuietPebble39archiveJul 20

Hello. Severe diarrhea continues even after splitting doses and it is hurting sleep. Any ideas?

GreyTimber24archiveJul 20

What dose and how long have you been on it? General suggestion would be to lower it.

Just switched from daily to twice-weekly shots at the same total and I am in the same spot. The flat feeling is real even though I know it should pass. Looking at one compound for possible energy support and already use another that helps; precursors might be worth trying too.

AmberLedger11archiveJul 20

Tiredness has been mild but cramps and constipation are worse. Healthy food, fiber, water, and more movement have not fixed it yet. Down 25 kg and happy with that but need to sort the bathroom issue without meds if possible.

PlainAlder11archiveJul 20

Nearly all of this settles for most people.

For me it was the reverse and I had to adjust diet to keep things moving. Greasy or spicy food can cause trouble when digestion slows. Eating clean right after any dose change and trying the bland banana-rice-applesauce-toast approach for a bit can help settle the stomach.

Now four weeks in and the flat feeling started at week three. Doses were 0.5, then 0.75, then 1 mg, then back to 0.75.

PlainAlder11archiveJul 21
↳ replying to @GreySparrow64

Stay on one dose for four weeks so levels build, then move up. Those amounts are low and do not do much. Do not drop, just hold longer.

GreyTimber24archiveJul 21
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

Agreed, probably a quick jump caused it. 1 mg is a reasonable place to begin.

GreyFenwick31archiveJul 21

No advice but hope it improves soon and congrats on the baby. Miss those early days.

Thanks, life is about to shift fast and it still does not feel real. Feeling normal again a few days after the second 2 mg dose. Logging this so others searching later have another example. Careful wording is the right call. 1 mg is probably fine for many, though individual responses vary.
