Personal accounts of losing weight after years of depression and inactivity

The original poster describes gaining five stone during a four-year depression and then losing 10kg in the first month of renewed effort. Multiple responders offer encouragement while recounting their own long-term weight-loss successes from similarly low starting points. The thread stays supportive with no conflicting views.

Today felt like a turning point. The last four years were dominated by depression that began with its worst phase of hospital stays, disappearing for days, and police plus family looking for me. Food became the only thing that gave brief relief, which added five stone. I had once cycled twenty-five miles daily but that habit vanished until I was doing nothing at all. After one month of trying to turn things around the scale showed ten kilograms less, along with less of the old doubt and pain. Motivation is returning and I want to end up stronger and more capable than before.

Sorry the last stretch was so hard, but glad things are moving forward now. Dropping ten kilograms after only a month is a strong result. Keep the positive outlook and welcome back.

Hoping everything ahead turns out really well and stays positive. You can do this.

That is a strong beginning. Keep sharing updates as you go. Many of us have faced comparable low points before making a big shift and never want to return to that place. Good luck continuing forward.

Well done, that deserves pride. After dealing with depression and weight issues for nearly forty years I recognise the difficulty. Watching the weight come off brings a real sense of achievement that makes the effort worthwhile.

Thanks for telling your story and congratulations on the ten-kilogram loss. Keep a positive focus on your targets and you will reach them soon.

Choosing to begin and then sticking with it already shows real courage. Others here are on various paths yet still find support when needed. Well done on the solid start.

Nice work getting started and good luck ahead. That mindset helps create lasting changes. It is possible. Three and a half years ago I weighed one hundred forty-five kilograms, felt too tired for anything, and could hardly walk a hundred metres. Now at sixty-six kilograms life is far more manageable even if not perfect.

That is really encouraging to hear. Seeing stories from people who started around the same place helps a lot. I am at one hundred fifty kilograms now after beginning at one hundred forty, and even the half-mile school run used to need stops because of leg swelling. Glad you reached a much better point and thanks for sharing.
