Summary

Does retatrutide cause returning anhedonia after dose increases and will it improve over time

Users report anhedonia resurfacing with higher doses of retatrutide or tirzepatide, leading to reduced interest in hobbies and socializing while still feeling okay overall. Many describe pushing themselves to engage anyway, noting that motivation returns after adaptation or with visible results. Positive side effects like quitting alcohol and junk food are common, though some worry about becoming withdrawn. Several point to older threads and personal experience that the flat feeling eventually fades.

Been using Reta nine weeks now. Last week I raised the dose to 2 mg and the anhedonia came back. I feel fine but have lost interest in things I used to enjoy, except working out and eating well. I'm seeing friends less often and they notice I seem more serious, even though inside I'm okay. On the plus side I've quit alcohol and junk food, but I'm concerned about becoming less sociable. Has anyone else gone through this? Will it ease up later? I intend to keep going until September then taper, but I don't want the whole summer to pass without enjoying my usual activities. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Stick with it until you reach your physical goals. You may need to act as if you're motivated until it becomes natural. Make a deliberate point of reaching out to friends or trying to laugh.

Thanks, I'll make a point of trying that. Solid advice.

This feels more like depression to me. My body needed roughly six months to settle on GLP meds and I still notice extra naps and staying in more the day after an injection, especially after raising the dose.

Maybe switching over to tirzepitide would change things. Newer options aren't automatically better.

Not sure about reta specifically, but I've come across reports linking tirz to anhedonia, including from people I know in real life. Probably something affecting the reward pathways. My suggestion is to go easy on yourself and ease back into hobbies without forcing it, while still making an effort to keep up healthy relationships.

CopperAlder51archiveMar 14

It might just be part of the process. All my unwanted habits disappeared and I suspect the flat feeling is tied to how that happens. I've quit drinking after more than twenty-five years, stopped using weed, and even quit biting my nails. Porn now registers as just a physical thing. I could almost join a monastery. These are big bodily changes. I don't believe it's permanent and I make myself get more involved anyway. The benefits seem worth the trade-off.

On tirz and I have some really low days too. I just force myself to do the activities anyway. Once I get going I usually end up enjoying them. It simply takes more mental effort to start.

Exactly right. I also have to push myself to begin, but once I'm moving everything feels fine. In my experience the activities often feel more rewarding now because the weight loss has made things possible that used to be hard or impossible.

You might find this thread useful. Anhedonia... that blaaaaah feeling.

It does pass, at least for me. Just needed time to adjust. That thread is worth reading. We could all use some summer and vitamin D too.

Wow, thanks. I've already picked up a lot from that thread. Good to know about it. I've saved it.

Same here, it feels good to manage things that used to be so tough.

I'm really grateful for all the kind replies and tips people sent my way. Existence shifts in big ways once you stop relying on cravings and habits. These days my energy goes toward my own needs, which feels unusual. I had stopped putting myself first.

Not sure if you're looking at other peptides, but when I need a boost I use Mots-c. I'm still running that fourteen-day protocol and it's another one worth keeping around. It lasts most of the day and then fades without a crash. For psyching myself up before a big meeting or deadline I like NA Semax. I prefer the IN route over SQ but can take a little more via SQ. Still unsure about using extra peptides to offset anhedonia from the first one, but it's helping.

This happened to me in the first few weeks. I couldn't face social events, and when I did go I just drank soda with lemon to pretend it was vodka. Once the results started showing I became a different person and others saw me differently too. It's only a matter of days, it all went back to normal eventually.
