Summary

Does BMB-101 improve sleep quality without changing total duration, and what else is known about it?

The thread discusses early trial data showing BMB-101 increases REM sleep while leaving total sleep time unchanged. Participants share personal experiences with other compounds and prescription options for better rest, note the drug's primary development for seizures, and speculate on mood or eating-disorder applications. Several users express interest in deep-sleep data that is currently missing from available graphics.

A compound called BMB-101 produced a large rise in REM sleep during its second-phase studies. Total sleep time stayed the same, but the makeup of the sleep itself changed.

For me the quality of sleep matters more than the hours. Only in the last little while have I managed to get better rest.

I want to increase deep sleep, yet the graphic for BMB-101 shows nothing about it. Has anyone come across data on deep sleep?

China I really want you to get production underway for that.

Not ruling it out, but DSIP was also said to boost deep sleep a lot. Then Epitalon, magnesium L-threonate, and now this one. Color me skeptical.

The first human trials are aimed at absence seizures. Other listed targets include binge eating disorder. I wonder how it would affect mood, since most antidepressants cut REM and sleep loss is sometimes linked to mood improvement through lower REM.

Sleep deprivation improves mood? That has not been my experience. Anything under seven hours leaves me feeling awful.

Not getting enough rest turns out to affect how I feel emotionally more than almost anything else.

Ordinary short sleep probably does not help mood; most people just feel irritable when tired. The studies are mainly in serious depression, where a single night of very little sleep can lift mood the next day, though that is not practical. For binge eating the only approved drug is lisdexamphetamine and GLP-1s may help but are not yet standard. It could still be worth watching BMB-101 for any long-term effect on eating control, given how relevant that would be for obesity treatment.

Among peptides I tried epitalon, DSIP, and selank for sleep. Among OTC options I tried L-theanine, L-tryptophan, and 5-HTP. I tracked everything with an Oura ring and notes for one week each. DSIP, epitalon, and selank gave no REM or deep-sleep gains. Epitalon did extend total sleep time. L-theanine and L-tryptophan helped me fall and stay asleep but did not change REM or deep percentages. Trazodone worked: I now get about two hours deep and three hours REM and wake up refreshed for the first time in years. I am waiting to see if the compound mentioned here makes it through trials.
