Max Dose on Tirz?

Summary

What experiences do people report with tirzepatide doses above the 15 mg prescription maximum?

Users describe increasing beyond 15 mg when effects plateau, with some reaching 17-20 mg weekly either alone or stacked with retatrutide or semaglutide. Side effects remain the main limiter for most, and small 1 mg steps are viewed as insignificant due to measurement variability. Stacking is frequently mentioned as an alternative to higher single-drug doses, and a few note ongoing clinical trials of elevated tirzepatide amounts.

Anyone tried doses higher than the 15 mg prescription limit for this medication? I've been at 15 mg for six months and the benefits seem to be fading. Thinking about trying 17.5 or 20 mg.

LevelThistle44archiveMar 10

For me the ceiling is set by how well I handle the side effects, which could be higher or lower than the doses used in trials.

IronBramble31archiveMar 10

I'd go up only as side effects allow. After time at 15 mg I would not hesitate to test 16 mg first and adjust from there. I have relatives who would stay at 15 mg if they were not also using 2 mg of another compound weekly with their 12.5 mg.

WarmAnchor49archiveMar 10

I used to inject 10 mg every five days and later added a bit of another glp-1 a few days later to strengthen appetite control. Using a plotter I reached a steady weekly total around 17-20 mg. Now I have returned to once-weekly dosing while maintaining.

BlueTimber11archiveMar 10

Maybe combining with a second glp-1 would be preferable to simply raising the dose further.

SharpLedger58archiveMar 10

I currently use roughly 18 mg of tirzepatide and 6 mg of retatrutide each week. The only noticeable effect is more frequent burping after meals. I stopped the third compound a couple of weeks ago and saw no change.

IronWillow20archiveMar 10

Interesting how often the combination of these two comes up here. I might give that a try.

No direct study compares the two approaches that I know of. If you already have the second compound on hand the choice is simpler. I split doses and have had almost no side effects with either medication. I add the second one only occasionally.

WarmMeadow92archiveMar 10

I have used up to 17 mg without problems. A trial is looking at higher amounts though the exact levels are not public. Recent moves by another company to seek approval for larger semaglutide doses suggest higher tirzepatide amounts may also be acceptable. If 15 mg is well tolerated then going higher should be fine. Adding a small weekly dose of the other glp-1 helped me break a stall last winter.

LevelThistle44archiveMar 10

Moving from 15 to 16 mg is probably too small to notice because of normal variation in filling, mixing, and measuring. That step is only about 6 percent while the earlier jump from 12.5 to 15 mg was over 20 percent. An 18 mg target would be a comparable size increase.

Would that precision matter more if someone were sticking strictly to the trial schedule rather than adjusting on their own?

The official schedule stops at 15 mg. My point was that one extra milligram sits inside normal measuring and fill tolerances so the real change could be larger or smaller than intended. It is still a small step.

Good point. I am still learning the details.

WarmHarbour28archiveMar 11

Adding the second compound did not help me. I have been using around 19.5 mg weekly lately and lose one to two pounds every ten days. Slow progress but steady. You also cannot be sure how strong your current supply actually is. Earlier batches I had were noticeably weaker.

I only want a little above 15 mg so some weeks I do 17 mg and others 16 mg. It may be mostly placebo because I agree the one-milligram difference is probably too small to matter. I had considered going all the way to 20 or 25 mg but chose to stack instead and have not been able to reduce the first medication yet.

If you are using the brand-name version then you at least know the strength. Are you on that or a compounded version?

RustMarble49archiveMar 25

I am planning to combine the two. Do you inject both on the same day or space them apart?

SharpLedger58archiveMar 25

I take the second compound three days after the first.

QuietLantern79archiveMar 25

Trials of higher tirzepatide doses are finishing now. You can probably try it but move slowly and watch for problems.
