Did anyone give up marijuana as a side effect?

20 replies16 peopleMar 19, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Has tirzepatide or similar GLP-1 meds reduced people's desire for marijuana or other substances?

Many users report a sudden drop in interest in marijuana after starting tirzepatide or retatrutide, often describing it as more trouble than it's worth due to sleep disruption and next-day fog. Some also lost interest in alcohol, sweets, or other habits, while a few continued using cannabis with no change or switched forms. A couple mentioned improved sleep from other peptides like epitalon as an additional factor that made weed unnecessary. One person shared a study linking edibles to endothelial issues, which prompted others to consider quitting.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

A few users still enjoy marijuana with no reduction in desire, while others quit entirely or switch to occasional concentrates or CBD.

Still open

Whether the effect is permanent or tied mainly to the medication's impact on reward pathways versus other factors like new peptides or job concerns.

Nothing here is advice.

After a week on tirzepatide I lost any drive to use marijuana. It just feels like more hassle than benefit now because it messes with sleep and leaves me tired and foggy the next day. Maybe the medication changed how my brain handles rewards.

I never smoked weed but I cut back on gummies even though I wasn't using them often. I quit completely once I saw a small study showing that regular edible use impairs endothelial function more than smoking does.

I dropped alcohol, weed, sugar, chocolate, porn, and even stopped biting my nails. Not sure if I should join the priesthood now or wait until I hit my goal weight.

I stay away from all of it myself, but one friend takes a gummy every night for sleep. Another friend showed him an article about heart effects and he already has heart issues.

SharpCinder28archiveMar 19

And keeping a weed budget just opens the door to buying heart-enlarging steroids, haha.

That study is interesting. I passed it along to some friends who still use. It might be enough reason to stop for good. I'm also job hunting and a drug test could come up.

What do you do for fun these days? Hopefully just enjoying feeling thinner and more attractive.

LevelSignal13archiveMar 19

Semaglutide helped me cut back on the heavy drinking I picked up in Germany during Covid. Since switching to reta I still use marijuana and hash, and I can smoke without any urge to snack at all.

Yeah it happened to me too, but it hasn't stopped me from using.

Peptides are my main focus now. I like being at a healthy weight even if the last ten pounds are slower than the first thirty. After a 20-day epitalon cycle and two semax cycles I actually enjoy the mental clarity. I don't want weed or alcohol to interfere with that. After years of lingering Covid fog plus a TBI and just getting older, I feel sharp again and I want to keep it that way. Reta makes saying no easier.

I'm trying to offset medication-related weight gain and it's a relief for me too. Glad you're feeling clearer.

IronCinder88archiveMar 20

No change for me, I still really like weed. But I have zero interest in alcohol, coffee, sweets, or fried food, so having only one vice left feels pretty good.

RustMarble36archiveApr 12

I switched from gummies to concentrates for occasional use. Gummies plus slower digestion make the timing unpredictable, sometimes nothing happens for hours and other times the effect lasts way too long and hurts sleep.

SteadyQuill55archiveApr 12

Yes. I used to take a few hits once or twice a week just to sleep. After an epitalon cycle and a half I fall asleep easily without it, and weed now tastes bad and feels like too much effort. I also lost interest in alcohol. I still smoke cigarettes and drink coffee, though my mom noticed her own cigarette cravings dropped sharply after starting tirzepatide.

No change here. Compared with what I've seen online I'm a lightweight anyway.

SharpTimber40archiveApr 13

Yup, it made me hungry and the high just doesn't feel the same. After ten years of smoking I quit. I still take CBD edibles with a little THC for nausea and that's it.

QuietHarbour62archiveMay 27

It probably depends on why someone uses weed. People with ADHD sometimes self-medicate with it or even cocaine, but once they get proper ADHD treatment they no longer need those substances. If the medication is now meeting a need that weed used to fill, losing the desire makes sense, though you could probably still use if you really wanted to.

That's interesting. I tried microdosing psilocybin before and the munchies were the main reason I stopped even though the other effects were good. I couldn't quit snacking even on tiny doses. Maybe it's worth trying again now.

WarmLedger68archiveMay 27

It caught my attention. Until I saw what you wrote, I never linked these things together. But now it looks like it can't be just random chance that my habit shifted from a small amount each evening down to perhaps only one time in seven days.

PatientTimber12archiveMay 27

The few times I tried after starting tirz I still got the munchies and ate a lot of junk food, though not as much as before. I also did an epitalon cycle and my sleep and overall feeling are so much better that I haven't used any THC products lately.

Things I care much less about now are sweets, fried foods, and heavy carbs. Things I care a little less about are alcohol (IPAs out, light lagers in) and weed (I microdose one or two times a week and was never a heavy user, sometimes went years without it, only for a very mild buzz). I'm also on a very low dose of reta, 1.5 mg after eight weeks starting from 0.5 mg.
