Blood tests

Summary

How many people get blood tests before starting peptides and what are their experiences with testing frequency and methods?

Participants split between those who obtained baseline or periodic blood work before or during peptide use and those who started without prior tests. Several noted improvements in markers like lipids, liver enzymes, and glucose after beginning treatment. Home capillary testing was described as less reliable than venous draws for tracking specific values. Some users perform tests every few months while others rely on annual physicals or only test when adding certain compounds.

Asking the group how many got blood work before any peptides versus just starting anyway. The poster began with Reta without prior tests and wants to hear what others did.

Had blood work done right before beginning Reta and plans to repeat at the six-month mark out of curiosity.

Gets blood work every three months. For GLP compounds the main changes appear in lipids and insulin, which tend to improve as weight comes off.

Did some testing but also started without waiting. Tried home capillary kits yet found their accuracy and methods lacking, so switched back to more standard draws this week to build a fuller baseline plus TRT-related labs at eight weeks.

CopperMeadow64archiveMar 20

Finds the number of tests surprising and notes that even heavy users of other compounds often run far fewer labs.

Asks how the home blood collection works, specifically whether you draw your own sample and mail it in.

LevelPebble75archiveMar 21

Skipped testing when using Reta by itself but began regular blood work after deciding to add HGH.

Explains that home capillary collection feels worse than venous draws and that the recent samples were standard venous ones.

PlainAnchor84archiveMar 21

Receives fairly complete labs every four months through primary care and plans to discuss starting Reta at the next visit in about six weeks.

Also started Reta without prior tests and is now considering adding Tesamorelin and BPC 157 without waiting either.

Asks whether hormones and cholesterol results from the mail-in kit are reasonably accurate, noting it is not a full panel but still wants to track a few markers.

At age 42 had never had blood work until this year after years of prompting. Results showed high cholesterol and poor liver numbers leading to a NAFLD diagnosis. Started liver support and GLP compounds, changed diet, and largely stopped drinking. Follow-up panel two months later showed all values in the healthy range. Plans to continue quarterly testing while on higher doses then shift to twice yearly on maintenance.

Received a mail-in kit two days ago and will collect the sample tomorrow morning.

Has results from before GLP-1 use, during, and current. The changes are striking beyond just weight loss: HbA1c dropped below 5, cholesterol and triglycerides improved, uric acid and liver enzymes fell, and blood pressure decreased.
