I agree an hour of lifting at 500 calories beats an hour of cardio at 500 calories. What seems missed is that 500 calories from cardio describes walking. An hour of lifting is better than an hour walking, fully agree. An hour of cardio at a slow jog is a much higher effort level and most people burn far more than 900 calories, well beyond what lifting plus afterburn totals. Also agree that cardio alone without any strength work ends up less useful long term than strength work alone. Yet strength work without any cardio is less useful for dropping weight than combining both. This is not about finding the single best method. Power lifters and strongmen tend to carry more fat while endurance runners stay lean with little muscle, and most people do best mixing both for weight loss goals.
