Your first remark made me laugh so I showed it to my boyfriend right beside me and he recognized it at once, said it was from a movie, and pulled up the scene for me to see. I had never heard of it before.
I made a great outfit modeled after Eddie for my husband to wear to a big Christmas party. We could barely walk ten feet before strangers stopped us to take pictures.
I refuse to stay friends with anyone who fails to catch this reference.
Same here, I pull out the same black dickie and pale sweater every December.
This site is not aimed at younger users so most of us caught the movie forty years back or on television during the holidays ever since. I actually dislike it because that kind of silly comedy does not amuse me and it just gets on my nerves, yet I can still recite half the lines from having heard them so often without trying.
Not knowing this leaves me feeling sorry for anyone in that position. What caused the floor covering to get soaked like that?

I own those large down-filled slipper boots and once wore them on a ski trip when I wanted to use the outdoor hot tub while my friend was gone. It was snowing so I put the boots on, grabbed a robe and hat, and came back inside looking ridiculous. My friend laughed hard, told me to hold still, and took a picture. Seeing myself as Cousin Eddie almost made me wet the boots from laughing. I later deleted the photo because I looked so silly but the memory stays with me.
