Maybe hitting my first stall

5 replies4 peopleAug 15, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

why is the scale going up on low-dose tirzepatide despite daily exercise and a calorie deficit

The original poster reports a one-pound gain after seven weeks on 2.5–3 mg while maintaining a deficit and adding workouts, attributing it possibly to water retention or vacation eating. Other users note that early doses mainly build tolerance and that exercise often causes short-term fluid retention from inflammation. One participant shares consistent weekly losses only after titrating upward and tracking intake rigorously, while cautioning against staying low too long.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

whether remaining on the lowest doses for months is effective or a waste compared with titrating when results stall

Still open

whether the current one-pound gain is water, muscle, or an actual stall that will resolve without a dose increase

Nothing here is advice.

Been using a low amount for four weeks then a bit more for three. This week the scale showed a pound higher even with daily workouts and keeping food intake controlled. Since early August the net is up a pound when the math said five pounds should have come off. Worried maybe calories are too low but that still shouldn't cause an increase. Finishing the current level and hoping things move after vacation with more restaurant meals. Aiming for slow steady change but dislike seeing the number rise, though it's likely just fluid or digestion. Not raising it now since hunger is already way down and don't want to spoil the trip with my daughters.

This kind of thing comes up now and then. The exact same problem hit me on two separate occasions with that item.

Hitting the weights causes your body to hold fluid for a little while because of the swelling from minor damage to muscle tissue.

Those initial small quantities of the drug mainly help your body get used to it. The actual results kick in once you increase the amount. Sure, I see plenty of people online saying they stick with tiny doses yet drop massive weight and all that. Still, it doesn't contradict the data from the formal trials.

I only stuck around on that discussion board for about ninety days because the atmosphere got too disheartening. Seeing so many individuals fail to shed pounds even when taking small amounts, while thousands urge them to endure a plateau lasting thirty days before considering changes, or suggest increasing intake after extended periods without progress, felt really disheartening. I had to stop observing it. I increased my dosage whenever the effects seemed to lessen. I logged my daily food intake without fail. I maintained a calorie shortfall on nearly all days throughout the weeks from the start of the year. My weight dropped consistently each week during that time. I never experienced hunger pangs. Despite the current availability of lower-cost options, I refuse to squander resources instead of fully supporting the treatment through my actions. Intense physical activity often leads to fluid buildup, so I ensure proper fluid intake and mineral balance while allowing recovery periods, yet when that persists beyond seven to fourteen days I review my energy consumption.

Appreciate the responses, it's good to know others feel the same. Planning to stick with this amount for seven days due to upcoming time off and dining away from home more often. Following that period, considering raising the amount since it doesn't make sense to do long uphill cycling trips, incorporate weight exercises, and watch what I eat without seeing results. Doubt I can reduce intake further, as I'm already around that daily level and the cycling uses up many of them. Still, I've dropped nine pounds from the original ten, which is something. Perhaps I'm building strength in my lower body from the activity, which it could use, so that works for me too.
