Psychedelic Drugs like ibogaine compounds To Become Legal
Are ibogaine compounds being fast-tracked for legalization to treat depression and addiction?
The thread notes that an executive order was recently signed to fast-track ibogaine compounds for depression and opioid addiction. Participants share personal reactions ranging from hesitation due to its intensity and cardiac risks to accounts of its potential for lasting behavioral change. Some compare it to other substances like kratom while discussing podcast discussions on the topic and Wikipedia details on side effects.
What this discussion establishes- Ibogaine described as a long and potentially dangerous compound outside clinical settings due to arrhythmia risks
- Recent executive order cited as reason no articles are available yet
- Personal accounts mention strong effects and life-changing potential compared to other psychedelics
- Some users express reluctance after reading about origins and side effects lasting days
- Kratom noted as a milder opioid alternative that some have used regularly without strong dependence
Views differ on interest level, with some saying a younger version of themselves might have pursued it while current selves prefer to pass due to risks and duration.
Still openWhether the fast-tracking will lead to actual availability or clinical use remains open.
Nothing here is advice.
Probably not yet since the executive order was just signed about an hour ago.
This substance feels bizarre to me. I have no experience with it however examining details left me cautious about handling it. Such hesitation is noteworthy haha.
My very first reaction after learning about this thing was wondering how to obtain it. Once I looked into more details it turns out this comes from the root of some African bush. That probably means getting hold of it would be similar in difficulty to Khat. Since the nearby smoke store carries kratom which I still haven't sampled I figure I'll skip trying this substance as well.
I am of the same opinion although a younger me would have been more interested.
I caught a recent podcast chat about advancing ibogaine access and the earlier one from last year. The substance produces an extended experience with serious heart rhythm dangers if used beyond medical supervision yet it can reshape someone's life in major ways. Other compounds in this class deliver solid outcomes too though the effects fall short of that level and usually call for repeated doses plus motivation focused therapy to lock in lasting shifts. They still deliver results in practice. During a study on psilocybin for alcohol issues that I took part in every person given the compound has stayed clear of drinking for two full years afterward and shows almost no craving. People in the control arm saw gains as well but much weaker ones.
I enjoy kratom quite a bit. This acts like a gentle pain reliever that also touches reward pathways in the brain. Lacking any deep pull toward those compounds let me take it on a steady basis, even every day across two years, without problems. Cutting back afterward felt simple enough. Folks drawn more strongly to similar substances usually face tougher challenges when stopping and sometimes shift toward alternatives that deliver a heavier effect. Basing views on a single encyclopedia entry alone never seems wise, ha.
Grateful for the heads up. The details mention any unwanted reactions might linger over several days. Guess I'll avoid that option. π
