Summary

Could sudden diarrhea and sulfur gas after months on a stable retatrutide dose be caused by the medication?

The original poster developed these symptoms after two months at 4 mg weekly following three months total on the drug, with steady diet and substantial weight loss. Most replies consider the timing unlikely for a new drug side effect and point instead to diet, possible viral causes, or gut flora. Suggestions include eating lighter after injections, trying probiotics, or checking cruciferous vegetables.

For the past couple of days I've had diarrhea and been passing sulfur-smelling gas. My dose has stayed the same for two months, so I'm wondering if retatrutide could be behind it.

My first thought is that retatrutide has altered your digestion. Another possibility is that you recently consumed more sulfur-rich foods, which turn up in lots of common items like onions, coffee, eggs and cheese.

Since the dose has been steady for months and the problem only started now, it seems unlikely to be the medication. Side effects normally ease up over time rather than get worse, except maybe certain skin issues. A virus or something in the diet feels more probable.

I used to get the same thing but it stopped once I switched to light eating for the two days after each shot. That means cutting back on carbs and fats for me, so chicken and yogurt instead of salmon. You may need to identify which part of your usual meals is triggering it and adjust.

It could be, though the sudden start after steady use is unusual. What dose are you using now, what was your starting dose, how many weeks have you been on the current amount, and what are your starting and current weights along with total loss?

I started a little over three months ago and have been at 4 mg weekly for roughly two months. I've dropped about 14-15 kg with no side effects until now. The symptoms showed up a couple of days before my next dose was due, and my diet has stayed the same under a nutritionist's guidance, so I suspect something else is responsible.

Try a few beers with some spicy chicken wings. That should flush out whatever is causing trouble.

I dealt with exactly that until I began taking a probiotic every day. Since then I can eat whatever I want without any problems.

This has never happened to me before, but I'll try the probiotic anyway. Thanks.

I've read that cruciferous vegetables might be behind the sulfur smell. Things like cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. No personal experience, just something I've come across.
