I can't increase my dose of Reta.

Summary

how to handle heartburn when trying to raise retatrutide dose

Users report heartburn and reflux starting around 3-4 mg weekly of Reta, often feeling like gastritis or waking them at night. Several found relief with daily omeprazole or other PPIs, while others used Tums, probiotics like L. acidophilus, KPV, or simple timing changes such as no eating close to bedtime. Some stayed at tolerable doses and added tirzepatide for appetite effects; others pushed through and found side effects faded after weeks. Weight loss continued for many once the dose could be raised or side effects controlled.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

whether to stay at a lower tolerable dose and supplement with tirz or push higher using acid reducers

Still open

how long any fix remains effective or what happens if dose is raised further after initial relief

Nothing here is advice.

Been on Reta eight months. Hit what felt like my top at 4 mg split twice weekly about two months back. Tried moving straight to 3 mg per shot and got heartburn that felt like gastritis. Even 2.5 mg and sometimes 2 mg still triggered it now and then. Dropped to 1.5 mg shots (3 mg total) a couple weeks ago and it got much better, but going back up to 2 mg shots brought the heartburn back a little. Anyone else run into this? Can't go any higher so I'm hardly feeling effects and the scale has started moving up without the appetite control.

Grab a PPI like omeprazole and you should be fine. Same issue hit me once, not from Reta, and it sorted it right out.

LevelAlder34archiveAug 16

L. Acidophilus probiotic helped me out. Used to get heartburn even at lower doses but kept moving the dose up every four weeks anyway and it faded over time.

LevelWillow41archiveAug 16

Same here, skin sensitivity gets bad at 4 mg twice a week. You could just hold at whatever dose feels okay and add some tirz to cover the appetite piece you're missing.

AmberCinder18archiveAug 16

About to try KPV myself. Saw several notes while reading that it can knock out reta-related heartburn and reflux. Cheap enough to test.

If appetite suppression is the goal you're probably on the wrong med and should move to Tirzepatide. Reta often needs higher doses for that effect. Main thing is probably focusing on low calorie dense foods and tracking what you eat.

Had heartburn for a stretch at 4 mg but only at night. Tums took care of it. It only lasts a while then fades, believe me. Got up to 10 mg with zero side effects after that.

Agree, did a 14 day run of Prilosec and no issues since.

Exactly like when I started Tirz. Just began split dosing Reta three weeks ago and plan to titrate up soon, keeping Tums ready. Also using KPV and think that helps a lot too.

Looked at that stuff some yesterday regarding that other deal.

What dose are you at now? Getting ready to go to 6 mg. Lost 38 lbs so far. People tell me at 6 mg it's like a switch flips and the glucagon effects kick in. Still have 20 more lbs to lose.

Probably a bit of it reaches you before long so you get to test it out. 👍

Had extreme heartburn on Tirzepatide, the kind that wakes you at night with acid in your mouth. Started daily Omeprazole and it cleared up completely after a day or two. Cut it out after a few weeks and the heartburn never came back, probably from the eating habit changes GLP-1s cause.

One thing I learned with Tirz is not to eat anything at least four hours before bed. Eat in that window and reflux hits like clockwork. Stick to the window and no problem.

Was on 10 mg, same as my wife. Now moving between 6 and 8 mg for four weeks depending on the Friday morning scale reading. In maintenance mode. Lost 60 lbs in 30 weeks. 4-6 and 8 mg really worked for me and I stayed on each about six weeks. Wife still on 10 and may move to 12 mg next dosing day.

What showed up when you stepped on the scale last Friday? Are the drops still happening?

PatientBeacon15archiveAug 16

Yup. Get a slight touch of heartburn in bed, not even worth an antacid, and it's always after eating a small bowl of cereal at 10 PM.

Really appreciate all the suggestions. I'm planning on starting omeprazole.

SharpCinder28archiveAug 16

If omeprazole doesn't fully work, the newest med for heartburn is Voquezna, available as generic from India. It was a miracle after trying the other PPIs. For minor cases Alka-Seltzer works for me. BPC could also help along with KPV in theory.

Second the acidophilus. It completely cured my sulfur burps.

Kefir works as another pectin provider in my case.

I mean it's not my plan but my attention keeps drifting everywhere. This morning I tried it out just for fun and the numbers rose. Who would've guessed.

Yeah, I know you're trying to find that balance. Ah well, eat some fried grouper.

Damn, this ends up costing way more than it should when I think about grabbing extra of the other kind instead. 😂 Gonna sort out the details soon. Hard to know how much of those bigger amounts might still be hanging around inside me.

During my time staying in Clearwater I remember a small seafood spot that served pieces of battered grouper which tasted amazing. I still long for those.

The meat tastes great yet costs way too much these days. Some buddies I met at a nearby tavern came here to help expand the highway crossings above the waterway nearby where I reside just a couple miles away, making it one lane wider. These guys hailed from regions around other waterways and they were quite wild. During their time off they would return home and bring back sacks filled with alligator meat from the tail section along with some from the rib area, all without any official markings. That wild guy harvested the animals personally. I slice the portions into small pieces then cook them in oil and savor the results. Nothing beats it straight out of the water. The rib portions taste fine as well. This all took place years ago if memory serves.

These medications often lead to heartburn because they slow down how quickly the stomach empties, leaving more acid in place for extended periods and raising the chance it flows upward. They might also disrupt the normal contractions and regulation in the stomach area. It's worth addressing the issue rather than ignoring symptoms since ongoing acid contact can harm the food pipe over time. When symptoms appear only after increasing the amount taken, keeping the dose lower works if feasible, otherwise medication to reduce acid like certain inhibitors can manage it. Avoiding large amounts of food in one go, skipping beverages during meals, and limiting intake close to bedtime helps because the problem tends to worsen when horizontal, much like ways to ease other digestive complaints from these drugs.

This problem hit me too once I reached the weekly three milligram level. The indigestion and those rotten egg burps began bothering me enough to disrupt sleep. After mentioning it to my spouse who has experience with similar treatments over a long period she recommended trying a daily tablet for acid issues. Once I started that both symptoms disappeared completely which felt incredible. Getting it was also inexpensive.

Grateful for the guidance. Beginning omeprazole has led to a noticeable improvement in how I feel. I intend to raise the amount taken by 2.5 mg at three-day intervals to observe the impact. Updates on my state will follow.

NorthThistle23archiveAug 20

Heartburn never bothered me until recently. These days when it shows up, mixing some baking soda into a glass of water and drinking it makes the problem disappear right away.

RustPebble43archiveAug 21

I believe omeprazole stands out as the most effective option against heartburn or reflux based on personal trials with various products. It delivers solid results after a few days of consistent use. Maintaining a daily or every-other-day schedule prevents issues from arising. This approach doesn't suit sporadic application since discomfort persists during the initial period. Enduring symptoms without intervention for weeks might allow the body to adapt to changes and resolve the problem naturally.
