Reta and Depression Is No Joke

Summary

How does retatrutide affect appetite and depression symptoms in users experiencing mental health setbacks?

One user described starting reta in February with good progress at 3 mg until personal issues triggered severe depression and near-total appetite loss, leading to very low calorie intake and stopping injections after nine days. Others shared that depression can suppress or increase appetite independently of the drug, with some noting anhedonia or variable suppression at higher doses. Responses focused on seeking mental health support, possibly lowering the dose, forcing vitamins or shakes, and waiting for effects to fade over weeks.

Whether reta directly worsens depression-related appetite loss or how long full recovery takes after stopping

Wanted to share a quick update on my reta experience. Started in February and it went smoothly at first with steady weight loss, manageable sides, and solid progress while still getting nutrients and avoiding much fatigue. Stayed on 3 mg the past four weeks. Then about a month ago personal problems hit hard mentally and brought back strong depression. Appetite vanished completely, not like the usual suppression. Went days without eating and struggled to drink enough to stay hydrated. Now food has zero appeal and forcing it feels impossible, so calories average around 200 most days, maybe 600 on a good one, or nothing. Nothing sounds good and eating is just a chore, even liquids on some days. Because of this I have not pinned in nine days.

Sadness or stress used to make me eat. I have never had total appetite loss and little experience with depression, but it sounds awful. On top of everything, missing basic nutrients will only make you feel worse. Hope you get through this and sending strength.

Never gone through anything like that myself, but it has to be frustrating. Depression often raises or lowers appetite on its own, with or without reta, and how the two interact is unknown to me. Maybe try dropping the dose? Two hundred calories a day is starvation and cannot last.

It varies a lot from person to person. My RS has been stressed and just went up to 4 mg at the same time, yet felt hungrier than before. I have only seen reports of extreme suppression in some while others notice none at all, especially compared to tirz.

Sounds like you should have skipped a dose earlier, but you are heading the right way now. Total appetite loss and having to force food happened to me at 4 mg, but I kept going an extra week, which was a mistake. The amount in your system will drop over time and interest in food should return in about two weeks; you are already nine days in.

My heart goes out to you. I know depression affects the body even before any peptides. There are peptides that can help with that, though I cannot mention them here, so keep looking into it. God bless.

Sorry you are dealing with this. Setting the GLP-1s aside, I hope you get treatment for the depression. You do not have to push through it alone.

At least take vitamins twice a day, like vitamin D with K2 and a prenatal that has iron. It helps my depression a lot.

Please reach out to a mental health professional right away. Try dark chocolate over 60 percent, it can help, along with music you enjoy, dancing, YouTube binaural tracks for depression, walks outside, and sunshine. Call friends too. Lemon balm tea is useful. Are you in perimenopause? Some herbal supplements helped me last year before I started anything. All these things brought me back. Our thoughts are with you.

It is very common for people going through a divorce to feel depressed and lose weight, especially the one surprised by the split. Depression can work both ways: total loss of interest in everything including eating, or coping by overeating.

Like others have said, please get help. Your reta progress does not matter if your mental health is suffering.

Anhedonia hit me hard on reta and took a full month to fade after I stopped. Your food interest might need that long to return even after the depression alone. In the meantime high-calorie protein shakes might be easier to get down a couple times a day, plus vitamins. Later you can figure out what came from you versus the drug, but one step at a time.

Thanks everyone for the support and ideas; I just caught up with the thread. Still struggling badly with food and have chosen to stop retatrutide until I feel better, then maybe restart at a lower dose once hunger returns. Right now the focus is getting help for what I am going through.
