Excuse for weight loss

Summary

what excuses work for weight loss when hiding peptide or GLP-1 use from friends and family

People handle questions about their weight loss differently based on how close others are and how private they want to stay. Common approaches include naming a well-known medication like Ozempic, claiming cancer to shut down criticism, or listing lifestyle changes while omitting the medication. Some stay fully open about GLP-1 drugs and receive support, while others keep peptide details private even if they discuss the medication class.

For anyone keeping peptide use private, what reasons do you give when people notice the weight coming off? A couple of my closer friends have started worrying and I am unsure how to calm them down.

SlowLantern99archiveFeb 28

It really comes down to how close the person is and how much privacy I want. For most people including relatives I simply said Ozempic, which usually stops extra questions because the drug is constantly in the news. When someone insists the amount of weight lost looks bad for my health I answer with just the word cancer. If they keep pressing I stare hard and say I do not want to talk about it and they should drop the subject.

I do not understand why GLP-1 medications carry such a negative view when used for weight loss. The benefits go well beyond looks and include real improvements in health, similar to using blood pressure drugs to prevent future problems.

In the beginning I avoided saying anything, but once I started telling people I was taking a GLP-1 the reactions have all been positive and supportive.

CopperSignal27archiveFeb 28

Very few people will keep asking once you answer with cancer as a single word.

The real issue is how society still sees extra weight as a personal shortcoming instead of a medical issue. Because the change is visible, unlike other conditions, some treat GLP-1 use as taking a shortcut. Since I prefer not to discuss the medication I answer with confidence by describing increased exercise, better food choices with a nutritionist, tracking intake, and therapy to fix my relationship with eating. That combination usually stops further questions, and the therapy part carries its own weight. I simply leave out the GLP-1 even though it helped make the other steps easier; the effort was still mine.

I just make a quick motion with my hand like I am injecting my stomach and say I am doing the shot. Most people respond with a quick oh and move on, which makes me think the topic is familiar to them now.

I simply say I am on a diet. At first I kept quiet about using reta because I felt a bit awkward, but now I think it is one of the best things created and I tell everyone. I have turned into a promoter and whenever someone mentions my weight I try to get them interested in the medication too.

I have been telling people I am on a cut and need to reach a lower weight first to remove the remaining subcutaneous fat before adding muscle back on.

SlowSignal37archiveFeb 28

I am open about using GLP-1 drugs but I only mention gray market or other peptides to people I know well. Some react fine or even show interest while others would be shocked.

I have told the friends who asked directly. A few others guessed correctly on their own. No one has copied the approach. Two of them said they are trying to do it naturally yet remain overweight.
