It would help to know exactly how much is left in the cartridge. Some pens have lines on the holder but I cannot tell what they represent and instructions are often missing anyway. Priming is another annoyance because air can remain even after I think I have cleared it. Engineering around that would be useful. I also prefer not to leave a needle attached between doses so shorter overall pens would be better, though length is limited by the cartridge and plunger. Cartridge holders that screw in feel more secure to me.
As I head into my final year of engineering I need to begin a finished project next year for my capstone. This lets me put serious time, money and effort into building something useful from scratch. I am thinking about creating an injector pen that works better for typical peptide users instead of being aimed at insulin. A certain existing smart pen gave me the idea because its electronics feel limited given what is possible with today's small components. If you could design a pen with any features you wanted, what would they be and why? I already plan to show substance loaded, total amount left, dosing schedule, date and time of last use, age of the peptide, and time until next dose. Other ideas could cover form factor or additional functions.
