I think I was bamboozled

Summary

why no appetite suppression after first retatrutide dose when switching from another GLP-1

Individual responses to retatrutide vary widely, with some noticing strong effects right away at low doses while others see nothing until reaching 4-8 mg after several weeks. Prior GLP-1 use can blunt initial response or require higher dosing to match previous suppression levels. A single first injection is too soon to judge product quality or effectiveness, and many continue losing weight even without the same food-noise reduction they felt before.

I was on a glp1 for about a month and dropped ten pounds while feeling good. After seeing everyone talk about how much they liked reta I figured I might like it too. I got some and took the first dose today but felt zero appetite suppression at all. Is this normal when starting reta or could it be the batch?

GreenSignal49archiveFeb 21

When I first started reta it felt like a switch flipped. I used to open the fridge twenty times a night just checking on things. Now I only get up a couple times for water. My son in law began three weeks ago at two milligrams a week and reported the same change. He used to snack all day with a coworker but now has no interest in snacks. Your experience is the complete opposite of what we both felt.

GreenSignal49archiveFeb 21

Just to note, the version I am using now came from a different source than before.

BlueKettle13archiveFeb 21

Everyone reacts differently. Some people get suppression right away at half a milligram while others feel nothing until six milligrams or higher. I began at one milligram twice a week and noticed little until reaching five milligrams twice a week after two months of slow increases. Now at six milligrams it works okay though not as strong as tirz.

I stayed only on tirz for my whole journey. When I looked into reta most reports said appetite suppression was weaker than tirz at lower doses and only became noticeable once people reached six milligrams. You can always return to the glp1 that was already working for you. Good luck.

I am thinking about switching back to tirz since it seems to give better suppression for most people. I wish I had started with that instead but here we are. Thanks.

When you took your very first dose did you notice any change right away or did it take several doses to feel something?

GreyPebble50archiveFeb 21

I began reta at two milligrams a week and started losing some weight. The effect became much stronger once I reached six milligrams with a clear drop in snacking and feeling full after just a few bites. I have settled at eight milligrams a week now though the fullness while eating has faded. I am down one hundred five pounds over eleven months and my tracking showed the biggest losses happened at the six milligram dose.

WryBramble37archiveFeb 21

I do not think two milligrams of reta equals two milligrams of tirz even with the glucagon added. Four milligrams of reta feels closer to two point five of tirz. I switched from two point five tirz to two milligrams reta then waited a month before going up to four. Suppression is milder but it burns fat well for me so I can still eat. If someone needs to feel starved to believe they are losing weight then reta may not suit them. Tirz stopped me from eating and I lost muscle along with weight. Reta seems to help keep muscle.

NorthThistle87archiveFeb 21

I am three weeks in pinning every five days. Started at two point five and now at four aiming for six to keep the math simple with my thirty milligram kit. Reta has not killed my appetite but it has reduced it in a useful way. You do not want to starve yourself. Focus on getting eating under control and building better habits which becomes easier when food thoughts and constant snacking fade. There are other metabolic benefits too.

Is it just me who sees this came out as their very first attempt this morning? Seems a little soon for evaluating the full set.

CopperSignal27archiveFeb 21

I assume you mean semaglutide by glp1. If I knew what dose you were on it might help explain the current lack of response. I had almost no reaction to my first few doses of semaglutide then got terrible nausea once I went above half a milligram per week. Tirzepatide caused far less nausea but I needed higher doses than expected for appetite suppression. Responses differ between people and even within the same person across different glps. One dose tells you nothing about how well it will work. Starting at one milligram and increasing every four weeks could mean months before any response appears. The goal is reducing excess weight and keeping it off long term since this is usually a lifelong need. Research so far indicates reta is the strongest weight loss option available without the safety issues seen in earlier compounds.

You sound just like me. At two milligrams appetite suppression was real and still is. I lost five pounds the first week after cutting back on beer and carbs. We just did the third pin at four milligrams and results remain the same with three pounds lost per week. Not sure yet whether to go to six or eight after the fourth pin. I keep an Excel sheet tracking everything since we started, my wife and I.

After about three weeks pass and the substance hits its maximum buildup in the blood, we can discuss it then. I'm also hoping the portion got verified ahead of time.

Totally agree on that. The other medication produced almost no noticeable results for me ahead of the 7.5 milligram mark. It seems plenty of folks hurry toward the newer option without much cause.

I skipped checking it since my supply was limited to a single container.

What dose in milligrams are you using and where exactly do you place the shots, like belly, leg or shoulder? Studies often begin around 2 to 4 milligrams in the opening week. Many aim for the smallest amount that still works and ease in even slower. I began with 3 milligrams along the side of my abdomen and noticed changes fast. After a couple of weeks I'm now around 5 milligrams overall. I might drop back to 2 milligrams weekly instead and rely on my background with water fasting to support it. So far I've dropped 3 to 5 kilograms and have maybe 7 left to go. The second or third time around I got bad bloating and loose stools from stomach shots every few days, but switching the spot to the thigh cleared it up.

My first two months I was taking branded tirzepatide. Month three I switched to reta at five milligrams and felt the same appetite suppression as before. I know not everyone gets the same results as I have, down ninety pounds since August, but for me it has been a godsend.

PatientQuill76archiveFeb 24

Perhaps the hunger control feels weaker than it did with that medication. Still, I notice the scale keeps moving downward, so maybe it's doing its job after all. I could have just grown accustomed to how the earlier version felt. Not really sure.

RustTimber30archiveFeb 24

I did not feel anything until four milligrams.

SlowWillow17archiveFeb 26

Effects accumulate gradually and prior use of comparable treatments might call for larger quantities or extra patience until they take hold. My first try used half a milligram at three-day intervals. The opening day produced almost no noticeable change. The follow-up administration two days afterward created only light effects that supported sticking with food plans. Now in the second week the reduction in hunger feels much stronger. Protein-rich meals are still manageable yet they create sizable shortfalls in daily energy intake and force eating nearly to discomfort just to keep the shortfall from growing too large. One clear pattern is that meals come easier the evening before the next administration yet afterward intense fullness sets in right away. Even with the frequent schedule I still sense the rises and falls tied to how long each dose lasts. Shifting to every-other-day use at a higher level crossed my mind but upcoming travel of eight days with a twelve-hour return leg plus another five days led me to switch temporarily to one larger administration before each segment and then resume the original pattern.

For midday we switched over to nothing except a protein drink, then followed that up later with a fairly ordinary evening meal of meat like beef pork chicken or fish sometimes paired with cottage cheese or a cooked vegetable. That drink really altered things because I felt stuffed well ahead of the evening meal and had zero appetite left.

PlainCompass18archiveFeb 27

Second week at two milligrams and I have never been this hungry. It is like someone sent me the opposite of reta.

ClearHarbour45archiveFeb 27

Reta right? I got nothing until around six or eight milligrams. Now I am on ten milligrams every six days and still not much suppression so I add one milligram of sema. Works for me. I would go to four milligrams on week three though lots of people will say they spent fourteen years to titrate to four milligrams. Someone will say they lost eighty pounds on point five milligrams and never titrated. I am not cautious but a little stupid. You have to do what works for you. What is the worst that happens, nausea for three days? Of course someone will bring up acute pancreatitis but not on four milligrams of reta. Good luck and do not get frustrated.

PlainCompass18archiveFeb 27

I managed to drop the pounds anyway, although the cravings didn't really quiet down. Over a span of seven months with the drug, I kept the dose at the lower level for the first four and then moved up. There wasn't much reduction in hunger overall. What it did do was keep me from grabbing snacks after dark, and I felt no negative reactions whatsoever. Altogether the scale showed a thirty kilo drop and my fat percentage went from thirty down to eighteen. Recently though, in the past couple months I've put seven kilos back on. Now I'm thinking about beginning at a low amount early in the week and bumping it up by a small increment midway if there's no change noticed.
