Lost rather a lot πŸ˜…

Summary

How to handle very fast weight loss and zero appetite on retatrutide without losing muscle or causing other problems?

One user lost 10 kg in 2.5 weeks on 4 mg after switching from another GLP-1 and is now forcing protein intake while worrying about gallstones. Others advise eating protein shakes or smoothies, starting low and titrating slowly, and waiting several weeks for full effects. Some note initial water-weight drops are normal and that very rapid loss is unsustainable long-term. Most stress patience, continued training, and focusing on nutrition rather than chasing faster results.

Been using reta for two and a half weeks and already dropped 10 kg or 22 lbs. The appetite suppression is so strong I might need to make myself eat anyway because I don't want problems like gallstones. Haven't felt hungry and hardly want food at all.

Congrats on the loss, but you still have to eat to avoid losing muscle. Focus on protein, maybe through drinks. When I had no hunger I used protein drinks and smoothies instead.

I've been aiming for protein mostly. Today is actually the first time I've noticed any hunger returning. Hopefully things even out from here.

What starting dose did you use? You still need enough calories to keep muscle. Also congrats on the weight coming off.

GreenPebble69archiveJan 25

I began at 4 mg since I switched directly from another glp1.

I began reta a week ago at a low 0.5 mg dose and haven't noticed any difference yet, especially with appetite. I strength train two or three times a week and my BMI is only 26. Wondering what dose you used.

I'm on week three and still haven't stepped on the scale since before starting. Planning to check after week four.

You only started a week ago so give it time. Titrate up slowly too. Just because someone else begins higher or increases faster doesn't mean you should follow that. Find what suits your own body. Keep training, pay attention to nutrition, and stay patient.

That makes sense. My plan is to go up by 0.5 mg every two weeks until I hit the right level.

Protein shakes and meal replacement shakes work well for me. It's much easier to drink one down than to sit through a full meal.

If this is your first time losing weight, don't be surprised if the rate slows. Early kilos often come from water as glycogen stores are used up. Keeping that speed would not be good anyway since fast loss can bring exhaustion, fainting, or gallstones. A realistic max fat-loss rate is about 1 to 1.5 kg per week depending on starting size.

GreenPebble69archiveJan 26

I'm used to weight going up and down fast. Started at 146 kg and now at 136 kg so the early pace is probably higher than average because of my size. Trying hard to get protein in and planning to add more fiber. Also need to restart lifting or I'll lose too much muscle.

CopperSignal27archiveJan 26

Good luck. I began at 145 kg and lost 6 kg each month until reaching around 90 kg. Started back in 2022 and now use tirzepatide with a little reta to stay at 68 kg. These meds might change whether weight comes back.

Studies show GLPs usually need about four weeks to really start working. Be patient, look through the forum, it's a long process not a quick one.
