Combining MOTS-c and SS-31 for Mitochondrial Support

I'm currently using a combination that includes reta, tb, bpc, cjc/ipa, and mots. I've taken 1.5 mg of mots before workouts Monday through Friday for a month now, but I'm considering a couple months of ss31 to support mitochondrial repair. I want to know if I can keep the mots going during the ss31 protocol or if that would simply be pointless.

I take motsc, nad+, and ss31 all at once. I'm not sure ss31 does anything noticeable for me. I use ss31 fasted before bed and motsc with nad+ fasted in the morning ahead of a fasted workout. The workouts feel strong.

No issue at all. If you're under 50 or don't have a metabolic condition, 2S31 probably won't do much.

I'm 48 and reasonably healthy aside from carrying extra weight that I'm losing. I don't notice low energy. Maybe I just need to adjust my mots dose. What dosing schedule do you use for mots?

Fasting longer than 48 hours, HIIT sessions, and a carnivore diet have worked best for improving my mitochondria. I'm about to test SS 31 and Mots C to check for any added difference. Past the 48-hour fast mark I had plenty of energy and even did two workouts with room for more. After HIIT I feel great. Niacin in flushing form, Acetyl l Carnitine, and Creatine have also helped.

I have a kit of mots-c arriving soon. I don't plan to use any ss-31 before or during the mots cycle. I'm curious how we could check if ss-31 is actually necessary. The logic for using it makes sense, but are there blood tests that measure mitochondrial health, and what specific number would show repair is needed?

Extra pounds seem to hurt the energy producers in cells, above all when fats get out of balance such as those triglycerides and cholesterol levels. That made me decide to test it out myself. I kicked off a fresh round with that substance a week ago starting low and raised the amount just yesterday. Caution was needed after the prior round produced a big painful knot at the spot. Once I changed over to plain salt water for mixing the problems with injection spots went away completely. Five milligrams is my current amount of the product and also for the salt water since those little bottles only stay good briefly. Breaks of two or three days happen mostly because I can't be bothered to pull out all the stuff needed for mixing up a batch rather than any studied reason.

I tried 5 mg of mots and felt nothing, so I switched to an SS31 cycle at 5 mg daily for 20 days and still didn't notice any change. This week I'm going back to mots to compare how it feels now.

Yes, that's the dose. I tried 10 mg but didn't see extra benefit, so 5 mg handles the fatigue from diabetes or metabolic syndrome. I also take 5 mg of 5AMQ daily. I'm trying not to rely on it too much even though it works well for me.

I'm thinking about raising my mots to 3 or 4 mg to see if that changes anything before committing to ss31, though running ss31 probably wouldn't cause harm. What are your thoughts on using both at the same time?

I did two weeks of 2S31 first, then added MOTS-c. Last month I ran another three weeks of 2S31 by itself and started noticing easier breathing plus about a 10-beat drop in heart rate during longer aerobic work. Right now I'm using both together. There isn't any clear direct synergy between them. Even though a mitochondrion looks small to us, it's big at the molecular level and the two compounds target different parts.

I've done this cycle twice. It's hard to know if I really needed it, but age and history made me think it was likely. I partied hard in the 80s and 90s, so I figured that plus getting older put me in the right group. What do you think about the partying history? Does ss31 help with that kind of damage or is it a real ongoing issue? Google says drinking and late nights create toxic byproducts and oxidative stress that damage mitochondrial DNA and energy production.

It wouldn't be a waste, but I wouldn't run them together for at least the first few weeks. Start with SS-31 alone so you can judge whether it's actually doing anything. Once both are in play it's harder to tell which one is responsible for any changes. I completed a full SS-31 cycle before adding MOTS-c. Now I'm running MOTS-c by itself, so I have a sense of each one separately and combined, which has been helpful for tracking my own results.

Your mitochondria from the 80s are already gone. They divide, so maybe a few traces remain, but new membranes have replaced them. I'd need to look up studies to see if anyone checked recovery after long-term withdrawal. The references only cover short-term effects, not long-term recovery. As of early 2023 biologists had mapped about half the contents of a cell, so more remains unknown. If alcohol caused a beer belly or liver damage, addressing that matters. Start with antioxidants and especially NAC. I take around 2 g orally on days with two glasses of wine or when using acetaminophen.

Most of the beer belly has gone and I'm taking NAC and TMG daily along with a glutathione detox. I'm curious how much the partying itself, not just alcohol, caused lasting damage compared with normal aging. This isn't only about me since my heavy party days are over, but as a general question for mitochondrial repair. Good news is liver and bloodwork look fine. What are your thoughts on self-inflicted mito damage and whether ss31 helps?

From what I've read on SS31, it may improve coupling between the respiratory chain and ATP production, cut electron leakage and oxidative stress, and keep cristae structure intact so more energy chains fit inside. In already healthy mitochondria the benefits show up less. From my experience it doesn't remove fatigue the way MOTS-c or 5AMQ does. It's not an energy booster, just slightly better breathing and a small heart-rate drop during exercise. I think it's worth trying once you reach a certain age, especially after losing weight. I began with a 10 mg kit to test it, then moved to a 50 mg kit that should last over three months. I'll check my next bloodwork to see if oxidative stress markers dropped.

So if I'm reading you right, age-related repair slowdown matters more than the damage from my own past habits. As we get older cells naturally struggle more to maintain and fix mitochondria because of accumulated mtDNA mutations, weaker mitophagy, and lower membrane lipids like phosphatidylcholine, leading to less energy and more stress.

You've looked into this more than I have. When I saw it might help repair metabolic syndrome damage I decided to try it. I've already tested several things to lower oxidative stress without clear results. Until recently we mostly had inhibitors for diabetes treatment; focusing on mitochondria is a newer approach. I'm not waiting around for more proof. After all, it's a medication given to babies.
