One thing to think about is that I keep a list of every kit with mass, seller, date, cap color and so on. When I fill a thermos I just print that list and drop the paper inside. That lets me label the vials only when I actually pull them out to use. If you really want someone to talk you out of it, maybe label your vanilla beans or lotions instead to scratch the itch.
I've got a huge collection stored deep in a big chest freezer. Items I'll reach for in the next year sit near the top while older stock is at the bottom. I picked up a label maker on sale and now I'm sticking labels on everything around the house. I skipped labeling the single vials earlier. Instead I bought kits three at a time, packed them into thermoses that hold thirty vials each, labeled the outside and lid, then dropped the whole thing in the freezer. Mixed batches went in with different colored caps and I noted what each color stood for. Now I want every individual vial marked with its contents, source, fill amount, batch number, and purchase date. New kits can be done that way, but I also want to handle the ten years of stock already frozen. Those thermoses have stayed sealed with desiccant packs inside. Labeling any group means opening the container and dumping the vials out.
