Down 18–20 lb on Tirz, trying to lose more body fat while preserving muscle — considering Reta

19 replies10 peopleJun 13, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Should I add or switch to retatrutide after plateauing on tirzepatide to keep losing fat without losing muscle?

The original poster has lost roughly 18 lb on tirzepatide, split doses, and now sits at a plateau near goal weight with lingering food noise. Several users report that switching or stacking retatrutide restarted loss for them, though energy stayed low and heart-rate changes were minor or absent. Others advise staying on tirzepatide longer, adjusting injection timing, or waiting until maintenance before changing compounds. No one claims retatrutide uniquely spares muscle compared with tirzepatide when protein and lifting are held constant.

At five feet nine inches tall I train with weights roughly four days each week. Before trying this medication my scale read near two hundred fifteen pounds and body fat sat around twenty percent. Aims at the time were trimming fat, supporting better health, looking improved, and seeing if sleep apnea along with CPAP use might ease.

Weight now sits between one hundred ninety six and one hundred ninety seven pounds with body fat estimated at fifteen percent or a touch lower. Results so far have been good overall, yet deciding the next step feels tricky. Low starting dose did little, so the amount rose and worked briefly before strong hunger returned near the end of each week. Dividing the dose into two smaller injections controlled that for months until cravings slowly returned. Current schedule splits a higher total amount twice weekly, keeping basic hunger in check though thoughts of sweets linger. Stocking protein, vegetables, and modest carbs helps, along with eating a full meal first when snacks tempt. Workplace treats make staying consistent harder.

Raising the dose further seems unwise since slowed digestion already feels limiting. Interest now leans toward another compound said to raise metabolic rate and favor fat as fuel through glucagon action. Plan calls for adding small amounts of the new option while easing back on the present one, shifting the balance over weeks. Reports indicate the newcomer may not quiet appetite or food thoughts quite as well, so keeping a low level of the original might stay useful. Full switch remains possible if appetite control holds. Pairing the newcomer with a third compound could work if cravings stay high, though combining every option holds no appeal.

From those who have switched, how did appetite and food thoughts shift? Did energy, fat loss, or shape feel different? Did anyone keep a trace of the first compound for better control? Has the third option improved satiety or cravings beyond either alone? Does a gradual change seem wiser than an abrupt one? Other ideas for this setup would help. Goal stays losing more fat while holding muscle, avoiding extra digestive slowdown, and easing cravings if possible.

What target weight are you chasing, and does the current amount still let you drop more? Have you spotted any drops in major strength numbers that hint at losing too much muscle? Over five months with this medication I've shed thirty five pounds and now sit at ten milligrams. Side effects have stayed minor. A couple short stalls popped up and I thought about adding another compound, but replies pointed toward holding steady since this one keeps working and I can still go higher. My top bench has slipped a bit from the overall loss, yet the rest of my lifts have held steady. I figured I'd stop stressing until I reach the goal, since I'm nearer the finish than the start.

Splitting the tirz amount keeps falling short. Taking the entire quantity every six days worked out better instead. Reta holds onto lean mass no better compared with tirz. Going after the good looking influencer on social media rather than the spouse one should have remained with feels way too strong. More negative reactions come with reta so the easing being looked for probably won't show up.

I had a comparable approach to ramping up one while easing off the other. It turned out just right for me. Currently I'm at 2mg of the first one each week with none of the second since the cravings are gone. I might add a bit of the second if it comes back. The pounds are dropping quicker now and I'm close to my initial target of 160 after starting at 205. Once there I'll think about staying put or dropping more. The way I feel hasn't changed from before. I thought there might be more hunger without the second one but these things are unpredictable. Right now I see the first as the one for shedding weight and the second for keeping it steady. That might shift though.

I'm aiming for 190 pounds while keeping body fat between 10 and 12 percent so I can judge how I look and feel overall. Power output has held steady with barely any decline in the amounts I can lift. Endurance might have shifted just a touch, which forced me to rest longer between sets during the period when weight was coming off. In the first four months I dropped around 20 pounds at a steady five per month. Then I added back roughly two pounds and the scale has stayed put for the past two months. Now I still need to shed seven more. The change in how quickly food moves through my system is already at the limit I'm okay with, so raising the dose isn't something I'm willing to do. It looks like you're still dropping weight. You mentioned having no issues at all? Has digestion not slowed for you, or does the current amount feel manageable?

My digestion has become a bit slower lately yet it stays under control especially if I cut back on heavy meals. I've started another supplement that helps my stomach feel better though I got along okay before adding it. You're nearing the weight you want so it makes sense to plan how you'll keep things steady once you get there or right after. It seems fine to bring in another med now since progress has stalled. I've seen many threads about switching over slowly or combining them and I checked those along with the related forums. I tried increasing my current dose in tiny steps like splitting it differently across the week to see if it restarted things without extra issues and I added gut support at the same time. I haven't used the new one myself but others mentioned beginning with a low amount of it in between their regular shots rather than together on one day.

I used to believe that keeping muscle tissue intact ranked among the main positives of reta.

Appreciate the reply you gave. Finding it curious that appetite thoughts are absent for you. Which strength of Tirz did that involve? Experienced any reactions from adding Reta? Checked the heart rate at rest ahead of using Reta, then afterward too? Was there a rise?

The starting injection of that medication came via an auto injector at the beginning amount. Right away the strong urge to eat vanished and has stayed quiet even after dropping to smaller amounts then stopping altogether a few months back. I cannot tell whether the newer compound is handling the urge for me or not since plenty of others report it does nothing for them which is the reason I kept both going together in the beginning. I stick to a set weekly pattern with the newer one while using the first only when the urge starts returning which can happen anywhere from five days up to more than two weeks after a dose. That pattern makes me think I will rely on this type of compound long term because the urge brings back the same loss of control and worry I had before any changes in routine. No amount of habit building seems to alter it for me it just flips on or off like a light. Watching how my body reacts has been eye opening and shows I am not cured without outside help from a peptide. That is why I keep a decent supply on hand so I never run out. I have watched my heart rate for years due to something else and it either rises slightly or stays the same depending on the day. I skip tracking variability though maybe that would be useful. Neither compound has caused me any unwanted effects so far and I count myself fortunate. Bowel movements have been slower than usual but that started well before any of this.

It's great that this approach succeeded for you. It appears your pulse doesn't rise much with Reta. Tracking HRV isn't something I do. There are lots of other areas I need to address, haha. Such as better rest routines and perhaps beginning exercise. I'll limit how often I inquire further. Still, did you notice better body fat reduction while using Reta? What about stamina differences when switching between Reta and Tirz? Nice job dropping those pounds!! It seems like thirty five pounds came off.

I notice better results when avoiding oily and heavy meals. Appreciate the input provided.

I've been using these glp1 meds for two years now. Bigger drops on the scale each week always left me feeling drained, but plateaus brought a bit of that energy back, which was frustrating. The first year was mostly tirzepatide at higher amounts toward the close, then retatrutide took over for the next twelve months. I eased from one into the other across several months. I toss in cagrilintide here and there when progress stops. Splitting the tirzepatide shots twice a week never helped me at all. Injecting once every six days feels right, and I stagger the different ones three days apart.

I monitored my pulse on several occasions and saw no major spike so I stopped worrying about it. When it comes to shedding fat I have no idea what tissue is actually disappearing. I reached a standstill with the first option and then began dropping again after switching to the second. My stamina stays surprisingly weak with either one even in small amounts and that effect feels stronger than I anticipated. Maybe I'll hit another plateau with the latest choice and end up stuck at whatever weight that produces. With any luck I will start eating more have better stamina and regain fitness. I plan to get a fresh scan later so I can check my updated body makeup. After that I might try another round of reduction or just hold where I am. I figured I would have more control over how this went. Life seems to find my goal of keeping or adding muscle while the scale drops pretty amusing.

Appreciate you posting that. Similar to your situation, fatigue hit me during weight reduction phases, even at rates slightly above one pound weekly. Over time my stamina improved. It checks out that plateaus brought back vitality since no calorie shortage was occurring then. I notice your suggestion involves injections spaced six days apart and shifting the other glp by three days. My limit is 5mg of Tirz per injection, which led me to divide the 7.5mg amount, though this could shift later. Five weeks marks how long I've used the 7.5mg level so far. Reports indicated others administered Cagri separately from Tirz or Reta timings. Grateful for the details on your effective approach. Additional choices and factors help.

I'm also supporting seven point five milligrams with six days in between each. I figure a five pound drop will occur in a few months or less.

I think this substance helps keep blood sugar a bit elevated, which supports better stamina in the gym sessions. During a calorie cut combined with lifting weights, it reduces much of the muscle loss that comes from the fat reduction driven by these compounds. Following the suggested pace of two pounds lost each week, along with proper protein consumption and steady strength exercises, makes it possible to manage without that addition, though including it does ease the training sessions somewhat.

WryBramble37archiveJun 27

During a comparable fat loss and muscle gain phase I made an abrupt change because the durations in the system create a month-long adjustment period. Hunger control was weaker yet the new option appeared to eliminate leftover body fat more effectively even with increased food intake. Switching felt like the right move. Currently focusing on upkeep and figuring out the right amounts has proven trickier than simply maximizing the previous compound.

I can't figure out how you measure body fat but your reading looks off. At five foot nine and a hundred sixty three pounds right now I keep things moderate too while doing resistance work three or four days a week plus calisthenics. A couple weeks back a scan showed twenty one percent when I weighed a hundred sixty seven and a half pounds. After dropping sixty one pounds my lean tissue loss stayed below five pounds. My wrist device gives sixteen point one percent instead and keeps lifting my mood so I skip those scans now. Cravings sometimes show up around the fifth or sixth day after the shot. When they hit I stay occupied and delay them as long as possible. If needed I take a handful of nuts or a couple olives or cheese cubes and the feeling fades. Anything sweet only strengthens it so I cut all of that out. Let the urge settle on whatever is handy and it eventually turns to stored fat. Getting past the adjustment lasts only a few days. Holding firm with routines matters more than raising amounts. I never went past five milligrams weekly. Switching compounds for two weeks brought stronger cravings plus a stall and three days of stomach trouble. When the first option works there is no point chasing something else. I give myself credit for about thirty percent of the outcome. For the past five weeks I have stayed at two milligrams weekly plus a daily three hundred fifty microgram peptide blend. That blend can increase appetite too. The main thing that ended a month long stall was taking the blend at five in the morning and skipping food until noon. At the lower dose I dropped six point six pounds over three weeks. Portions feel smaller now because my stomach fills fast. Training before any food and waiting an hour or more afterward helps.
