Reta - To Split or not to Split, That is the Question

18 replies14 peopleApr 4, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Should retatrutide be dosed once weekly or split into multiple injections per week?

Users report mixed personal outcomes with both schedules. Once-weekly dosing offers simplicity and can sometimes restart weight loss after a stall, while splitting aims to smooth blood levels, reduce peak-related side effects, or maintain appetite control later in the week. Half-life effects are often described as minor for most people. Individual response varies widely, and many simply stick with whatever schedule feels easiest.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether single or split dosing is superior depends on personal goals and side-effect profile; some see clear benefits to one approach while others report the opposite.

Still open

No consensus on the best transition method between schedules or on how much the half-life actually matters in practice.

Nothing here is advice.

I've picked up bits of both arguments. The studies showed strong results from one shot a week, yet the roughly six-day half-life might mean weaker effects toward the end of the week, and splitting could keep peak blood levels lower and therefore cut down on sides. What I'd like is someone pulling those points together, maybe saying one weekly shot suits certain people or aims while splitting works better for others or different aims. Or maybe I'm missing something obvious and someone can set me straight.

Two main reasons come up for splitting. First, if sides hit a day or two after the shot and then fade, they're probably from the peak, so smaller more frequent doses can avoid that. This helps mainly if you're still trying to lose weight or control hunger and want to go higher but sides are blocking it. Second, if hunger only returns around day five or six because the low point isn't enough to keep it down, splitting raises the minimum level twice a week. You could also just raise the total dose instead. For most the six-day half-life isn't very noticeable anyway. The big plus of once a week is how simple it is and how hard it is to mess up.

Any tips on moving from split doses to one weekly shot? Like slowly making the first one bigger and the second smaller until everything lands on one day? Or would that change not matter much?

Mostly from laziness I never switched. I had to dose ozempic every other day to cut bad nausea even at low amounts, so when I switched to tirz and later added some reta I just kept the every-other-day habit. Your idea of gradually shifting more to one day and less to the other makes sense, and jumping straight over could cause trouble. Splitting also helps while you're still raising the dose, because smaller shots wear off quicker if sides show up.

I've seen both. One weekly shot gave me great results even though hunger crept back on days five through seven. Day one is hit or miss. Days two to four food barely interests me and I have to force myself to eat. Then around day five or six it starts to feel like a small unexpected bonus and meals start to sound okay again, maybe even two controlled ones by day six or seven. Overall it balances out for me.

Started splitting on tirz to keep losing. Began with one weekly shot on Mondays, then added a smaller one on Fridays when hunger returned late in the week. Switched to reta with equal doses on Mondays and Thursdays. The steadier blood levels are the main benefit for me. Now on maintenance at two small weekly shots, weight stays put, blood sugar is fine, no sides.

Two shots a week aren't hard to track if you pick set days like Monday evening and Friday morning, about three and a half days apart. Nothing special either way, just pick one and switch later if you want.

I was stuck while splitting twelve milligrams of reta. Switched to one weekly shot and started losing again.

Every six days has worked best for me. It really depends on what your own body is saying.

After everything I've read here I think I'll switch to a single weekly dose. Appreciate all the experiences shared.

Appetite control seems a bit stronger when I pin every six days. Haven't tried splitting yet.

There you go. If that doesn't suit you, try twice a week instead. Notice how different it feels for each person here?

If you're already splitting other shots, just line this one up with the same days. That's what I did. The goal for me is just keeping levels from swinging too much.

I don't see how switching would end the stall.

A single twelve-milligram shot would create a higher peak than two six-milligram shots spaced three and a half days apart, so maybe that higher peak restarted the response. I'm still splitting because it helps keep my allodynia under control, and I have no trouble remembering the days. I like the steady suppression and won't move to single dosing until my situation changes.

Hunger returning on days five through seven is actually a plus in my view. Still, this varies a lot between people and starting weight seems to matter most.

Could you share the amounts you used, how much weight came off, and over what time frame? Did you combine anything else besides reta?

CopperAlder25archiveApr 8

With 2.5 mg I notice appetite suppression for about four days but then feel quite hungry the rest of the time. I'm considering splitting into two 1.5 mg shots instead.

Lost about twenty-four percent of starting weight over six months, first on low-dose tirz then switching to reta after three months. Began reta at two milligrams twice a week and now use two milligrams total per week for maintenance. Added daily Klow and Nad+ in the last two months as well.
