Reta skin sensitivity!!!

Summary

How do people manage or overcome skin sensitivity while using retatrutide?

Users report skin sensitivity as a common and sometimes severe side effect of retatrutide that often appears or worsens with dose increases. Many find it fades after weeks or months at a stable dose, though some need to drop the dose, split injections, or pause briefly before resuming lower. Antihistamines, zinc, topical creams, and KPV are tried with varying success; exercise and time are also mentioned as helpful. The effect is linked to GLP-1 activity but remains poorly understood.

Seeking anyone who's gotten past this issue. Currently at 6 mg weekly of reta, which I like because the weight is coming off and I can still hit my macros, but the skin sensitivity is really bad. Taking two antihistamines a day plus zinc based on earlier suggestions, yet it still feels like needles coming out of my hair follicles. Any tips?

SharpHarbour71archiveMar 19

I get this too on reta and it has kept me from going above 3.5 mg a week. No magic fixes here, but regular Advil or similar helps along with lidocaine or hydrocortisone cream, though maybe not so much for the hair follicles.

I got that sunburn-like feeling on my stomach and back after raising my tirz dose. It hung around for about a month before finally disappearing.

BlueBeacon12archiveMar 19

I had the same thing around that dose. The only thing that helped me was taking roughly a ten-day break to let levels drop, then restarting at a lower dose. I've seen others say they just kept going and it eventually passed.

Creams haven't helped me. I skipped a dose and now plan to split it into twice-weekly shots to see if that makes a difference.

I tried pushing through but it was just too miserable. I've skipped a dose now and will split future doses in half going forward.

CopperSignal27archiveMar 21

If it's that unpleasant you will probably need to lower the dose. Splitting might help if it's only bad right after the shot, but not if it lasts all week. Plenty of people here say it slowly fades over time, so you might be able to raise doses again after a month or two once it settles. I had some episodes while quickly increasing tirz, but now I get a milder version consistently on 15.75 mg tirz plus 5 mg reta weekly. I can't raise the reta at all without it getting much worse. Antihistamines don't seem to explain it since the problem is clearly GLP-1 related yet shows up more with reta.

PlainTimber78archiveMar 21

I switched to insulin pens and tested one first with only a small deviation. Last Monday I used it for what I thought was 4 mg of retatrutide. From Wednesday onward I had very sensitive skin and lots of itching, which is now easing up. Retesting showed the pen overshoots because of the spring, so I likely got 6-7 mg. Conclusion is that raising the dose too fast causes strong side effects. Any tips for the skin issue?

SteadyCinder62archiveMar 21

I always called it a windburn feeling, like holding your arm out the car window too long. The good news is you adapt and it goes away, at least in my case.

I've had this skin sensitivity since starting reta nearly eight weeks ago. It's still there but has eased a bit in the last two weeks. Still annoying, but I'm getting closer to my goal weight so I can handle it.

LevelCompass91archiveMar 28

It started for me at 6 mg. I lost weight fast at 8 mg and just dealt with it. Once I dropped to 4 mg for maintenance it went away. It's irritating but the weight loss mattered to me. You can either tough it out and hope a lower dose works later, or switch to something else.

Yeah it's awful but it does go away. I was close to quitting reta and then it just stopped.

WryThistle16archiveMar 28

I used reta for six weeks from a US source, then switched sources on week seven and got hives two days after the first new dose. I was also on day three of enclomiphene when the hives appeared. ChatGPT pointed to the enclo as the likely cause. I took Zyrtec twice daily, stopped the enclo, and symptoms cleared in three days. I've kept the Zyrtec going for ten days out of caution and will stop it today before my next reta dose tomorrow. Hoping it's not a reta allergy, but I'll know soon. Before the enclo I noticed warm skin but never hives.

Hives are totally different from skin sensitivity. Something was definitely off with the enclo.

I lived with the condition over many months and adapted to its presence. Out of nowhere it was no longer there. Physical activity provided the single form of relief for how I felt throughout.

Thanks for sharing. I'm climbing the walls over here. At first I thought I was just getting chills easier after dropping nearly 50 lb, but it's the reta skin sensitivity. I love everything else about reta, including how it boosts my workouts. On 4 mg now in week four, planning to titrate to 6 mg while keeping up hydration, daily electrolytes, and lifting four times a week plus a small tirz dose for food noise.

CopperSignal27archiveApr 6

Might be relevant. I'm on 15.75 mg tirz and 5 mg reta split into twice-daily doses. I always thought the sensitivity came only from reta because tiny increases made it much worse. I hadn't changed the tirz dose since reaching 15 mg, but adding an extra 1 mg of it the other day made the sensitivity just as bad as extra reta does. Still no idea what the receptors are doing, and I haven't found any research on it.

LevelWillow41archiveApr 6

This is the only side effect that made me consider actually quitting instead of just lowering the dose and toughing it out. There were some rough weeks at every step, but in my experience it fades if you stay at a dose long enough. Because of all the sides combined I skipped a shot after week two at 4 mg and kind of reset. Skipping gave a nice break and let me feel normal again for the first time in months.

GreySparrow51archiveApr 19

Out of everything this bothers my RS the most. The sheets covering my RS remind me of something warm and cozy. Good thing according to what others said it fades once my RS gets used to the amount.

PatientLedger69archiveApr 19

Same here, skin sensitivity from the start. After three weeks it seems a lot less. Some days are worse than others, but I'm a bit scared to titrate up because of it.

PatientAlder37archiveApr 19

Had the sunburn feeling on my face for the first time with this week's dose. Usually I get intense itching between my shoulder blades. For me a shot of 500 mcg to 1 mg of KPV lessens symptoms within an hour. Some people have luck with it, some don't, but it works 100 percent for me.

NorthKettle44archiveApr 19
↳ replying to @PatientAlder37

Do you take Glow or Klow or GHK-cu plus KPV separately when dosing KPV alone for the skin sensitivity?

PatientAlder37archiveApr 20
↳ replying to @NorthKettle44

I choose the standard KPV. Because of my metal issues I stay away from the copper option.

NorthKettle44archiveApr 20
↳ replying to @PatientAlder37

Got it. The question comes up since I'm getting ready to begin a cycle with both GHK-cu and KPV together, and I wonder if the KPV portion could provide any help. If KPV was already part of your earlier stacks, that would point to needing a higher amount of it.

PatientAlder37archiveApr 20
↳ replying to @NorthKettle44

I went ahead and checked each product by itself first, just to gauge whether it eased the skin reaction on its own. After that I combined them to compare whether the result stayed identical. Waiting through the separate trials felt tedious, yet learning my own responses proved worthwhile in case the blend ended up causing trouble.

NorthKettle44archiveApr 20
↳ replying to @PatientAlder37

Ideally I agree, but the other side is ISR concerns with GHK-cu, which along with high dilution the KPV helps buffer when mixed together.

RustTimber30archiveApr 20

Four milligrams caused the effects to feel quite strong on occasion. Neither zinc picolinate nor antihistamines brought any relief at all. The whole thing cleared up by itself after roughly thirty days.

I'm wondering about the bird shown in your avatar photo. Have you met that bird in person? If so, what name does it go by?

GreySparrow51archiveApr 20
↳ replying to @SteadyQuill55

I met this chicken but they were wild. Unfortunately because of the wild nature I knew I'd never really know them. That fact plus the style of the strut made me take the photo.

SteadyQuill55archiveApr 20
↳ replying to @GreySparrow51

It's true that really understanding a bird happens only occasionally. One of my ducks has reached twelve, yet I doubt I will ever fully grasp what she is like since she tends to keep to herself and her emotions seem intricate. She dislikes another duck I have, and why that animosity exists remains unknown to me. A barrier has always kept them apart, though they clearly despise one another.

WarmQuill56archiveApr 20

This week I noticed my skin became sensitive all of a sudden. After going up to eight units the next day it seemed like a mild burn from the sun at that event lasting four days. With the alcohol and exposure once back it was noticeable across my body. Before reaching that level I hadn't experienced anything like it. Thinking about lowering it slightly in the coming days.

RustTimber30archiveApr 28

I'm experiencing it again the past two weeks since going up to 6 mg.

WarmQuill56archiveApr 28

The effect from what I took is fading bit by bit. It began for me on April tenth and now recedes at a gradual pace I can notice at this moment. By mistake I ended up taking more than planned over a short period. I aimed for four milligrams but suspect the amount was closer to six or eight since I have no clear recollection.
