Any experience with vitamin D deficiency?

Summary

What are people's experiences with vitamin D deficiency, its symptoms, and how it gets treated?

Several users report being diagnosed with low vitamin D and treated with high weekly doses of D3 for a few months to bring levels up, followed by lower maintenance dosing. Some add K2 or note that vitamin C may aid absorption. A few saw little or no change in how they felt after treatment, while others found the high doses helped keep levels above the minimum though not always much higher.

Hello everyone, hope this is the right spot, sorry if not as this is my first post. I have a long list of health complaints. I'm 48 and male, not doing great physically after years of neglecting myself following a wild youth. I've had type 2 diabetes for about 15 years but mostly ignored managing it except for a few short tries. Now I'm trying to get things in order with reta, TRT, doctor visits, blood tests, diet and so on. I've been on a big stack of supplements for a year including magnesium, iron, vitamin D with B and K2, omega 3 and others, but never noticed any difference. My D3+K2 product has 4000iu of D. A basic home test shows I'm very low on vitamin D even so. I don't get much sun. I'm calling the doctor tomorrow to ask for proper tests. Has anyone here been low on vitamin D? What did it do to you and how was it handled? Especially curious what improved afterward.

I got diagnosed with low vitamin D. They put me on a high weekly dose of D3 for several months to bring levels back up. It was cheap. After that I switched to a daily multivitamin for men plus a D3 gel cap twice a week, which kept my levels in the normal range. The high dose is meant to be weekly only. I accidentally took it every day for a week and it left me feeling very confused for days. Don't repeat that mistake.

My levels are also low. The doctor gave me one 50,000 IU dose each month. It helps a bit to stay above the lowest point but not enough to reach 50. I tried 100,000 for two months but my stomach couldn't take it. Adding K2 makes sense though not every doctor includes it. A solid amount of vitamin C is also useful since it seems to support how the body takes in vitamin D.

I was also told my vitamin D is low. I've been on the same kind of high weekly dose for a while now. I wish I could describe how it changed how I feel, but I haven't noticed any real difference.

Thanks. So the idea is a strong dose to raise levels first, then they hold steady with just normal maintenance instead of constant high treatment? Good to know.

Thanks everyone. Another person mentioned the 50,000iu amount too. Sounds like once levels are corrected, if they really are low, the regular dose should be enough to hold them there. Appreciate the replies.
