Can you filter a peptide that has a grow?

Can filtering remove contaminants from a peptide vial showing visible growth so it can still be used?

After seeing growth appear in my already-reconstituted peptide, I wondered if running it through a filter would strip out spores and other contaminants so the solution could still be used. Or does the presence of growth mean endotoxins are now floating in the vial anyway? I'm not trying to save money here, just trying to understand what filtering can actually do.

Filtering won't save this vial. By the time growth is visible, endotoxins are already dissolved throughout the solution. A 0.22 µm filter does nothing to them because they are nanometer-scale molecules, not particles. The result would be a clear solution still full of pyrogens that can cause fever or worse. The organisms released those endotoxins the entire time they were growing. Discard it.

Besides endotoxins and metabolites now in the solution, the organisms were consuming something to reach visible size. They have been eating the peptides in the vial. So there may be toxins present and at least some of the original material is gone.

Toss it without further thought. This also shows the difference between buying from a local seller versus taking the time to learn proper sourcing, reconstitution, storage, and handling of peptides and supplies.

Bacteria populations always have some members that perish quickly and this releases endotoxins from inside them.

So if I was using the vial before any growth became visible, and someone said endotoxins were probably already there before anything could be seen, does that mean I was lucky not to have a reaction earlier? Or does the presence of growth not necessarily mean a bad reaction would occur?

No real way of knowing. You might have injected when it was still sterile and contamination happened later, or you might have been lucky. Either way, you would not eat food with growth on it, so you should not inject anything with growth in it. Toss it, deal with the seller, or accept the loss and learn from it. This is serious work with your health, so be overly cautious rather than risk getting sick or worse. If possible, post a picture of the growth so others can see what might be in there.

It seems moldy to my eyes. I threw out the container already since saving it wasn't on my mind. My goal was figuring out whether this kind of issue could be cleaned up through filtration to make it usable once more. Plus I wanted to know if the contents had been tainted right from the start. The container sat around for roughly four and a half weeks prior to any growth appearing.

I think what we're seeing here is the peptide coming out of solution. This stuff consists of a big delicate string of amino acids. Maybe the cold in the refrigerator caused freezing once mixed with the liquid, or perhaps it was exposed to high temperatures if left somewhere warm. Either situation would make the molecule break apart and separate from the liquid. After that the whole thing loses its activity completely, with the pieces gathering into those stringy bits. That's what seems most likely to me based on the appearance, though contamination from mold or microbes can't be ruled out. In the end though, it's no good anymore.

I chose not to try that batch on myself since it could easily turn out to be microbes instead of harmless strands yet the uncertainty alone felt far too risky. Shooting anything straight in skips every layer of natural protection so even tiny traces of organisms or poisons can turn problematic right away. Those might just be protein threads but without any way to confirm it or figure out the actual amount delivered once bits have stuck together the whole thing stays uncertain. An eighty milligram mass of the stuff has unknown size anyway and that total weight does not take up much space. In the end I tossed mine and ordered from a well known trusted source instead.

Yeah, seems fungal growth to me, and maybe straining could get rid of that. Still, I'm not sure it would eliminate all the toxins or other waste products left behind. I'd just get rid of the whole thing.
