Stacking Tirz with reta?

28 replies15 peopleSep 2, 2025☆ Follow
Summary

Is it safe and effective to stack tirzepatide with retatrutide for weight loss?

Users report mixed experiences with low-dose stacking of tirz and reta, with some seeing continued progress and others noting side effects like elevated fasting insulin or blood sugar. Official guidelines advise against combining GLP-1 medications, yet several participants describe personal success at reduced doses without major issues. Concerns center on disrupting the intended GIP/GLP-1/glucagon balance in reta. Titration approaches vary widely, often starting very low and increasing pins rather than amounts.

My subject is on 9 mg of tir split twice weekly. Progress stopped a while back, yet I want to avoid pushing the top end since 12 mg weekly is the ceiling I can reach. Has anyone tried adding reta alongside it? Any other ideas for what to combine with tir if reta does not work out?

QuietAlder20archiveSep 2, 2025

The 12 mg weekly limit applies to reta, not tirz. Tirz goes up to 15 mg weekly. Plenty of people go past that safely by raising the amount or injecting more often.

Thanks for clarifying. Is it considered safe to run both at once?

ClearWillow59archiveSep 3, 2025

I combine reta with tirze at modest amounts of each and the results suit me well.

SharpCinder28archiveSep 3, 2025

Even reta by itself can trigger issues such as nonstop hiccups if doses climb too fast without proper ramp-up. A risk with any stack is suddenly using far more than usual one day by accident or impulse. Still, I have not come across reports of hospital trips from combining these, aside from one case of pushing cagri too hard too soon.

Official guidance cautions against mixing these GLP medications. Even so, quite a few people experimenting in this area report success pairing tirz and reta. The amounts, ramp-up pace, and injection frequency end up being individual choices.

SteadyMeadow36archiveSep 7, 2025

I run both at modest levels, 5.5 mg tirz plus 1 mg reta. It is working nicely for me. I may raise the reta later and lower the tirz to test the shift, but I will stick with the current plan while it holds up.

IronLantern65archiveSep 8, 2025

When I tried both together my fasting insulin jumped sharply. I think the tirz plus reta upset the GIP and GLP-1 balance that reta is meant to maintain. Once the tirz cleared out, the insulin reading went back to normal. The glucagon part in reta pushes blood sugar higher, so altering the GIP and GLP-1 mix seems risky based on what happened to me and what my labs showed.

CopperSignal27archiveSep 8, 2025

I dropped most of the weight first without any medication because cost was an issue at the time. Once I could access low-dose versions locally I switched over, then moved to tirz with fewer side effects. Later I added small amounts of reta every other day. Besides a short stretch of daily headaches that may or may not have been related, things have gone smoothly so far. I have now stopped.

QuietAlder20archiveSep 8, 2025

Well done on the progress. The steady method is impressive.

AmberAnchor10archiveSep 8, 2025

I use 3 mg reta and 5 mg tirz together every ten to fourteen days and it suits me fine.

Are both given on the same day or on separate days? I will probably move into maintenance soon and want to know what spacing works best.

I noticed a fasted blood sugar reading of 116 after beginning the tirz plus reta stack. I am not diabetic but will watch to see if it repeats.

That lines up with the concern. GLP-1 and GIP change how insulin is released and how sensitive the body is to it. The glucagon piece makes the liver release sugar. Changing those ratios can make the body react oddly to sugar by making too much or too little insulin. Stacking two GLP-1 type medications does not seem wise, and the makers do not support it either.

That makes me wonder about all the possible combinations if someone tried sema, tirz, reta, and even more together.

Yes, it feels like taking a chance. It could help or it could work against the goal. Glucagon alone was tried for weight loss decades ago but was dropped because it raised blood sugar. The only reason it is used now is the careful mix with GLP-1 and GIP. Those proportions matter, and adding another GLP-1 or GIP agent could upset that balance.

This is exactly what has been making me uneasy. I have been adding a very small dose of survo every six days against 5 mg of tirz each week because reports suggested it might ease the tiredness from tirz. I do feel less fatigued, yet I worry since I already feel unsure about anything that speeds up metabolism and because longer-term data is still missing. I tell myself the amounts are tiny so major unknown effects are unlikely, but I remain nervous about continuing long term.

For the tiredness, did you check whether your food intake might be contributing?

WarmMeadow68archiveOct 14, 2025

I do not think reta increases metabolism by a large amount. If it did, lower doses than tirz would be enough, but maybe I am missing something while having my coffee.

My eating is already in order with plenty of vegetables, protein sources, and vitamins. The tiredness comes from the tirz itself. Even so, feeling somewhat low on energy is far better than the alternative of watching weight climb again. Many say the fatigue fades eventually, and the added compound did reduce it noticeably for me.

You actually do use smaller amounts than with tirze alone, and the heart-rate increase points to higher metabolism in my view.

QuietAlder20archiveOct 14, 2025

Note that the maximums differ across these compounds, so direct comparisons of amounts do not line up exactly.

Glucagon itself makes the body burn fat. Exact numbers for reta are not fully measured yet, but the extra burn is estimated around two hundred calories daily.

How long have you been combining them? Did results improve? Did it work overall? Any titration schedule you would suggest?

LevelBramble55archiveJun 10

How much weight came off from using tirz and reta together?

ClearWillow59archiveJun 10

Over a year I lost 52 pounds, which is slower than some but meaningful for me, and my BMI is now under 22. At the peak I averaged 3 mg weekly of each. I began with very small amounts and increased the number of injections instead of the size of each one, moving to every other day. Reta was added later at low starting levels. It raised heart rate and caused some skin changes at first and during increases. Now in maintenance I pin each every four days, staggered, at 1 mg reta and 1.2 mg tirz per injection. A plotting tool helped with timing.

That insulin change is worth noting. I have blood work coming up in a couple months, the first since adding reta, and will share the before-and-after numbers for others to see.

SlowLedger87archiveJun 10

Should someone begin with reta then add tirz, start the other way around, or begin both together?

Could you share the schedule you followed?
