Making Switch from Tirz to Reta

how to transition dosing when switching from tirzepatide to retatrutide

One user on 15 mg tirz for over six months began tapering by dropping to 7.5 mg tirz plus 2 mg reta and planned further reductions every four weeks. Another switched by alternating compounds weekly after estimating an equipotent dose and has stayed on reta since August. A third post explains there is no exact conversion formula, notes reta's extra glucagon effects can raise heart rate and nausea, and advises starting no higher than 4 mg reta.

I've been taking 15 mg of Tirz for more than six months. Goal is to move completely off Tirz and stay only on Reta. Last Friday I cut Tirz straight to 7.5 mg and then took 2 mg Reta the following Monday. Plan is to hold that combination for four weeks, then drop to 5 mg Tirz with 4 mg Reta and continue stepping down. Would like to see how others have raised Reta while lowering Tirz, including their timelines, dose changes, and whether they reached Reta alone.

My doses were lower so maybe not as useful, but I skipped any weaning schedule. One week I used Tirz and the next week Reta. Found what looked like an equipotent dose and switched to it. Kept the same Sunday morning schedule even though Reta's half-life is a bit longer. That was back in August and it worked fine; no going back since.

How much reta did you begin using and which amount do you have now?

How did you estimate the equivalent dose for reta? I'm currently taking 5 mg tirz every Thursday and planning to make the switch in the next two weeks.

I don't think there's a precise way to match up the amounts of these two substances based on their effects. From what I've seen with weight reduction, the higher dose of the first one lines up roughly with a medium amount of the second. However, the second one brings along some extra reactions tied to overactive nervous system stuff, such as faster pulse, trouble sleeping, and weird skin sensations. The first one skips the glucagon part entirely while the second one hits it, and that's behind most of those differences. Also the first one hits the GIP part a little harder, which helps offset some stomach upset from the GLP-1 action, meaning the second one might cause more of that too. Jumping straight to that medium amount seems like it could cause trouble for several days at least, and I've read about folks running into issues even with lower starting points. It might be better to begin with a small amount of the second one and monitor how it goes, though stepping up the amount more quickly than usual doesn't seem too dangerous if you watch for any growing discomfort and adjust accordingly.
