There's plenty of discussion around bacteriostatic water yet I still haven't come across standard pH reference values. I got some that reads 5.7 and I'm wondering whether that works for most peptides or whether it might cause trouble with a few of them.

The usual product tends to sit at 5.7 and spans a range of 4.5-7.0. That 5.7 value is considered fine.

Thanks, I'll pick up some pH strips to check it myself since the common brand is hard for me to find.

A quick reminder about testing strips: they are not all identical. Some are made for particular liquids and many ordinary water strips miss the pH ranges needed for bacteriostatic water. Choose ones that come in a sealed container, cover roughly 4.0 to 9.0, and preferably read in 0.5 steps. The accepted window is 4.5-7.0. Below that the solution turns acidic and at 4.0 the preservative effect is probably weakening. Above 7.0 it usually points to contamination from the container.

So from what you're saying, if the peptides turn into a gel then the pH is too high?

Most peptides handle a pH between 4.5 and 7.2 without trouble. One of them varies a lot depending on the pH level.

For most cases a pH near body levels works better, around 7.3-7.4. There are exceptions with peptides that are difficult to dissolve or that gel at certain pH values. Forum threads cover the best practices for those. You can also look up the isoelectric point with an AI query and ask for references to reduce errors. The patents list the isoelectric point and target pH for several compounds. One example has an estimated isoelectric point below 5 so a higher pH around 6 is preferable.
