Any benefit from going to tirz from Reta?

17 replies17 peopleSep 5, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Should someone switch from retatrutide to tirzepatide or stack them for long-term blood sugar control and weight management?

Users report mixed experiences with switching or stacking the two peptides. Some find tirzepatide provides cleaner appetite control without raising heart rate, while retatrutide offers better metabolic and fat-burning effects. Several are already stacking at moderate doses or planning to move to tirzepatide for maintenance once goals are reached. Liver health, side effects, and individual response influence choices more than any universal preference.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Some prefer retatrutide long-term for its glucagon effects and feel, while others choose tirzepatide for fewer symptoms and better suitability as maintenance.

Wondering what works best for ongoing long-term use. Currently taking 2.5 mg per week of reta since January 2026, which is nine months now. Have been combining reta but thinking about adding tirz too. Do people switch between the two? Tirz appears not to raise heart rate the way reta does for most. What suits small doses better? Do most users support the idea of tiny amounts?

I'm not sure what you're hoping to achieve here.

Keeping blood sugar and A1c in normal ranges. I'm 46 and male. Had very high levels before and learned about fasting benefits. Type 2 didn't come out of nowhere since I used to drink heavily. Refused to accept it as a progressive disease. Doctor was surprised by the big improvement in labs. Even with fasting it was a daily fight to stay at 100 or below. Got tennis elbow so workouts stopped and drinking returned after five years off. Then found reta. Appreciate the lack of food noise, which fasting used to give, but age means needing extra help now.

Stack until some single peptide appears that matches what combining gives.

I believe someone has tried this.

Need more details. Does the higher heart rate bother you? Is reta meeting your needs? Tirz gives stronger appetite control, would that help or hurt? Why not just increase the reta amount? How is liver function?

Currently combining tirz with reta. Started on tirz and reached 15 mg while losing weight. Interested in reta's longer-term metabolic and fat-burning effects so added reta at 0.5 mg. Now at 2 mg reta with 12 mg tirz. Planning to keep raising reta toward 4 mg while lowering tirz to the lowest level that still controls appetite. Using a CGM to watch for low blood sugar.

Any other diabetes medications? That affects hypoglycemia risk. With the drinking history and type 2, chances are there's some liver fat buildup, so liver numbers would clarify things. Reta reduces liver fat better than tirz though fibrosis reduction isn't confirmed yet. Might do better with higher reta instead of adding tirz. Current weight? Any side effects?

Like the appetite control and lack of issues with tirz but reta stands out for glucagon effects. Stack both at moderate levels. Really comes down to personal goals and background. If forced to pick one would go with tirzepatide for being smooth yet effective enough for good results and suitable for long-term maintenance.

Combine them. 4 mg reta and 4 mg tirz twice weekly, reta on Mondays and Thursdays then tirz on Tuesdays and Fridays. Down 60 lb and close to target. Losing is tough now, maybe a pound a month at most. Also on TRT and another peptide while working out six days a week, mostly cardio with two weight days.

Didn't really describe the full picture. On 2.5 mg weekly reta. At goal weight, still losing, or aiming for other health results? If losing is happening, leave it alone. No point complicating what works. If at maintenance, reta can serve as a periodic adjustment but probably not ideal ongoing. Higher resting heart rate, lower variability, and often poorer sleep are noted. Tirz feels cleaner. Microdosing meaning split doses or small amounts? Use whatever amount gives the wanted effect with least issues. Two 1 mg doses may work or two 5 mg doses may be needed.

Switched three days ago. Took half a reta dose then waited two weeks before the tirzepatide. Was only on 2.5 mg reta but even the half dose carried over into the second week. Didn't like the higher heart rate and lower variability so figured tirz could reach goals. Going well so far with strong appetite control and no issues on the watch.

Curious about switching from reta to tirz. Hit goal weight and using reta for maintenance feels like overkill. Have two kits of reta that would last 100 weeks at current dose so it will be some time before testing the change.

Would rate both as similar in strength, both powerful options. The benefit of having plenty of each on hand is no pressure to finish one before trying the other. Combining makes the distinction even less clear.

That's the plan here too. Starting with reta and shifting to tirz once goal weight is reached.

Likely to do the same, on reta now and planning to move to tirz for maintenance. Concerned about possible regulatory changes that could raise prices or limit access. Tirz seems to last longer so might suit extended use better, plus lower cost helps.

BrightSignal76archiveSep 15

Will probably switch once the current kit runs out. Reta doesn't control hunger well for me so added another peptide to fix it. Now at 12 mg reta plus 2.5 of the add-on. Would rather save money with just one tirz injection.

SteadyAnchor13archiveSep 15

Reta simply feels better overall. Less nausea, more energy, not as cold. Tirz leaves me feeling weak, sick, and unable to eat much. With reta I just get full quickly on small amounts of food.
