Reta after goal weight

21 replies12 peopleJun 17, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Do people stay on reta or switch meds once they hit goal weight, and how do they handle maintenance?

Most participants expect to remain on a GLP-1 at reduced doses rather than stop entirely, citing studies on weight regain. Several describe plans to titrate down, cycle between compounds, or pause briefly while monitoring appetite and weight. Personal accounts show mixed results with short breaks, and some note faster loss rates prompting earlier dose cuts.

Wondering whether others expect to keep using reta once they hit their target. The scale is moving so quickly that I may need to lower the amount or quit altogether.

WarmAlder92archiveJun 17

I switched over to tirz plus a little survo three days after stopping. It has been under a year. Weight moves up or down about five pounds with activity level but stays roughly the same.

SteadySparrow75archiveJun 17

Replies will probably reference studies showing full regain after quitting these drugs. I expect most here will keep their final dose or a reduced version. My own idea is to move from tirz to reta, reach goal, then drop back to tirz at maintenance levels around half to three-quarters of the peak amount.

LevelThistle44archiveJun 17

I plan to stay on something once I reach goal. I will try lowering the dose if possible, but if no sides appear then I will just continue as needed.

CopperSignal27archiveJun 17

If the drop feels too quick then lowering the dose makes sense. It also depends on the reason for using it. Older users or those with major health issues tied to weight probably benefit from staying on long term. For someone only mildly over target it is more of a choice.

I paused for three weeks after two or three months on it. I could probably manage without it again. I did not gain much during the break, maybe a point on BMI, though it was hard to tell. The cost is low and resting heart rate change is not obvious. I actually might sleep better because I stop eating earlier. For now I feel better while using it since it helps me keep eating habits in check. I see nothing wrong with continuing if it improves how I feel or supports diet consistency.

Another maintenance dose thread this week. I am near goal and hope to go down to two to four milligrams when the time comes.

SteadyTimber49archiveJun 17

I expect to continue for at least a couple of years. I hope my body adjusts its set point so stopping becomes easier later, but right now I would likely regain within a year. I am basically at goal though another five pounds would be fine. 44 female, started at 210, now 135.

Good progress. I am also aiming for five more pounds.

Just wondering how many weeks you have been on so far. Has the loss rate slowed or stayed steady the whole time?

What amount are you currently using and how long have you been on it?

Started reta on January 9 2026. Just finished the fifth week at 8 mg so moving to 9 mg on Sunday. We pin on Fridays but adjusted last week because of travel. I did not want to begin the new dose on a shortened interval. My wife is also using it.

I am two or three pounds from finishing my cut on reta and ordered some tirz for maintenance to help manage appetite rebound. I will use the lowest effective amount and try spacing doses farther apart gradually to check if hunger returns strongly.

I have been on almost seven weeks now, taking about 6 mg split into two doses. Most of the loss happened in the last five weeks at roughly three and a half pounds each week.

That is one idea I had for controlling appetite without losing weight as quickly.

Did you ever try single weekly doses or have you split them from the start? I am curious whether changing the schedule made any noticeable difference.

WryBramble37archiveJun 17

I hit goal after about four months moving from tirz to reta. I am still doing body recomp so I lowered the reta dose to target remaining belly fat while aiming to hold 10 percent body fat at goal weight. I had reached 4 mg but came down to 0.5 mg and settled at 1 mg. Adding tesa/ipa at night along with other support is helping.

That pace is a bit fast. I am sure it does not bother you.

I started with single doses but they disrupted sleep too much. Splitting the dose reduced the sleep issues.

The common advice is that losing too quickly is not ideal and one to two pounds per week is better. I have averaged 2.2 pounds weekly since January. The first two weeks were higher due to water weight.

The first week on reta at 0.5 mg did nothing. The second week at 1 mg I dropped from 94.9 kg to 92.3 kg. That is nearly three kilograms, probably water though I have also cut calories in half. I would prefer more loss.
