Sulfur burps keep happening despite efforts

Summary

how to get rid of daily sulfur burps while taking omeprazole and eating smaller meals

Users report the burps link to slowed stomach emptying and gut bacteria changes from GLP-1 use. Remedies tried include ginger tea, acidophilus probiotics, extra water intake, thorough chewing, intermittent fasting, and digestive enzymes with ox bile. Some saw improvement after lowering dose, adding BPC-157, or avoiding triggers like beef and onions, while others noted probiotics or hydration helped over time.

These burps hit every single day and taste awful. I've used omeprazole for roughly a month. Pepto, papaya enzymes, and famotidine have not stopped them. They continue daily. Portions stay small and low in fat. Not really painful, just irritating and gross. Any odd remedies worth trying, or even something to mask the flavor? Someone mentioned pickle juice might help.

They come from delayed gastric emptying. No actual fix, just wanted to point that out.

Try ginger root. Cut it up, pour boiling water over it, let it sit five minutes, then sip slowly. Hope it helps.

Acidophilus probiotics were the only thing that worked for me. It took about a week but now the burps are gone.

Intermittent fasting plus BPC reduced my acid reflux enough that I stopped needing omeprazole. It cuts both ways though because fasting made it hard to get enough calories and protein, and my hair started shedding so I quit. Now I take omeprazole every four days or so. I dislike it because it blocks vitamin absorption and stops B12 production that needs stomach acid.

I never got sulfur burps from sema but used to get them randomly every few months. I would feel extremely sick for a couple days with constant gross burps, throat heartburn, and bile vomiting. The only thing that helped was not eating at all, basically a water fast for three days until they stopped. When bad I could not work. Protein drinks and electrolytes might be worth trying. My manager thought it was gallbladder trouble. Oddly the problem stopped about a year after starting semaglutide.

Any time gastric trouble starts I just drink a lot of water, easily over a gallon daily without effort. Occasional bloating eases with more water. Tums get used now and then. Roadside tacos showed me pepto tablets are useless for this.

Smaller more frequent meals get mentioned often, but the tip that helped me is chewing food until it is mush before swallowing. That keeps it from sitting and rotting in the stomach. It worked for me and for friends I got started on glps.

Changes in gut movement, diet, weight loss, and smaller food amounts all affect the microbiome. Sulfur burps likely come from gut bugs making extra h2s gas in the small intestine. Diet, fiber, and pro or prebiotics are the usual ways to shift the microbiome. I had it for a few weeks on tirz and it faded on its own. Probiotics or fiber are simple things to test for a week or two.

This happened to me partly from having no gallbladder and partly from damaging my gut. It sent me to a gastroenterologist and I focused on rebuilding my gut. I skip my trigger foods, do intermittent fasting, take broad spectrum probiotics with omeprazole each morning on an empty stomach and wait four hours before anything but water. I also use digestive enzymes with ox bile at every meal and aim for more fiber than carbs. Finding triggers mattered most. Beef, garlic, and raw onions were the worst for me. Beef already digests slowly and slow emptying made it worse. Metformin for A1c also improved gut motility. When burps return they bring terrible gas too. Gas-x helps. Probiotics reduced the sulfur smell.

The vitamin shortfalls are real. After two years of daily omeprazole my B12 and calcium were very low. I now take weekly subq B12 and daily calcium. Getting energy back felt good. Intermittent fasting helps the gut but I rarely hit calorie goals and need protein drinks and vitamins. Thanks for posting, good to know others deal with it too.

I have had the same issue plus other side effects since going up to 10 mg of tirz. This week I focused hard on hydration and the sulfur burps, gas pain, bloating, and stomach upset started fading. It was not even more fiber, just reaching about 100 ounces of water daily. I am now on the drink way more water team and hope it helps the original poster.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and comments. I will try some new approaches and watch my eating more carefully until things settle.

How long have you been on it and what dose? Nothing worked for me even at the lowest tirz dose except dropping the dose further, taking oral BPC-157, and waiting. Six weeks in now and it is improving.

What foods are you eating? Sulfur can come from bacteria breaking down certain items or from foods that already contain sulfur compounds. This sounds like possible intolerance to sulfur foods or a microbiome problem.
