Loose skin after weight loss

Summary

can peptides like GHK-Cu or other non-surgical options tighten loose neck skin after major weight loss

Participants report that GHK-Cu, microneedling, and similar approaches produce only minor texture or quality improvements at best and do not meaningfully tighten stretched neck skin. Surgery is repeatedly described as the only reliable solution once weight has stabilized. Age, genetics, how long the skin was stretched, and rate of loss are cited as key variables that determine how much natural tightening occurs. Some users continue the peptides anyway for general skin benefits while accepting the loose skin as a permanent trade-off.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

whether GHK-Cu at higher doses or specific cycling actually restructures tissue versus doing nothing; whether cosmetic procedures abroad carry meaningfully higher risk than domestic ones

Still open

how much further natural tightening will occur after the first year and whether any non-surgical method can ever close the gap for severely stretched neck skin

Nothing here is advice.

I have mild loose skin under my chin creating a turkey neck look. The rest of my body is fine after dropping around 75 pounds. I'm 41, six foot three, and currently 250 pounds. Would GHK-Cu injections help with this? Any other suggestions to improve it? The area right under my chin bothers me a lot.

Probably not much effect. I started right away and ended up with no loose skin after losing 110 pounds.

CopperMeadow83archiveJun 18

Reach a BMI under 24 first and then check again. You might be able to go as low as around 20.5 but maybe not necessary. Starting GHK-Cu could help a little but probably not much. Once at goal weight, radiofrequency microneedling, radiofrequency tightening, Ultherapy or HIFU, or CO2 laser for crepey areas might offer some improvement.

AmberCompass48archiveJun 18

No, not really. That is stretched skin and in that location it does not tend to firm up if it has not already. There are endless posts about glp1 turkey necks on forums and reddit. The only real fix is surgery. View it as a badge of honor since you overcame being overweight and the turkey neck is your trophy.

The previous points are solid. You might get used to it and keep the weight off long term. As you age it could return to some degree. I had surgery years ago then regained a lot and later used Tirz to lose it again and keep it off. I could do surgery again but will not spend that kind of money unless I win the lottery.

GreyAlder39archiveJun 18

It is really annoying. Older relatives keep saying I look like my grandfather. I am thinking about trying some GHK-Cu multi-pin locally if it does not improve in six months.

BrightBramble77archiveJun 18

Try higher doses around 3 mg per day along with microneedling. Do not stay on GHK-Cu longer than one month before taking a month off.

BrightBramble77archiveJun 18
↳ replying to @GreyAlder39

Why 3 mg? Because that amount is viewed as a higher dose that can restructure tissue in ways lower doses do not achieve effectively according to my research. The one month on and one month off cycle gives the body time to clear the copper, especially at those higher amounts.

A neck lift runs between twelve and thirty thousand in the US or two to seven thousand in places like South Korea, Thailand, Mexico or Colombia.

PatientHarbour23archiveJun 18

Not really effective for this, but botox can help a little. I get quite a bit in my platysmal bands and under the chin for exactly this reason.

CopperMeadow83archiveJun 18
↳ replying to @PatientTimber45

I am not sure. People get face lifts regularly with hematoma risk around 1.8 to 2 percent and nerve injury under 1 percent. Most of those resolve after treatment within six to twelve months at rates of 75 to 90 percent. If the person wants to get very lean to 20-22 BMI or lower and the issue remains bothersome, they can consider it later, save up, and weigh the risks. I might get a face lift years from now for wrinkles but will probably try GHK-Cu, microneedling or lasering first since they are easier.

SteadyTimber49archiveJun 18

No improvement for me. My neck looks terrible. I keep using klow hoping it might help a bit but have seen no change. It bothers me a lot too and nothing short of surgery will really fix it.

PatientTimber45archiveJun 18

The gamble is traveling to Thailand, Mexico, Turkey and similar places to save money on the procedure, not the surgery itself.

I can confirm the same experience. I have lost 55 pounds so far with very loose skin under the chin and on the neck. I used GHK-Cu at 2 mg daily plus microneedling with GHK-Cu cream. It improved skin feel, quality and resiliency but has not fixed the loose neck skin or at least not much.

RustKettle57archiveJun 20

Is it possible that glow70 could work better here? With the addition of tb500 and bpc157, might there be a chance it could help with loose belly skin?

AmberCompass48archiveJun 20
↳ replying to @RustKettle57

What helps loose belly skin is good genetics. The longer you carried extra weight the more the skin stretched. Younger age makes it more likely to bounce back but that still depends on genetics. Once skin is very stretched any peptide approach is like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube with a spoon while blindfolded and on a deadline.

SteadyQuill55archiveJun 20

I am telling myself to wait a full year before judging my neck, the area where my rear used to be, or my lower abdomen. For reference I began Klow in September at 165 pounds after starting at 186 and have been cycling two months on one month off. The GHK-Cu portion is 2 mg daily. It did not save me but I do not know how much worse it would have been without it, which is why many of us will end up with a freezer full of klow without a clear sense of whether it changed anything.

I'm 58 and I've been performing these routines daily for the past month. They've reduced the issue by about two thirds, though it's not fully resolved. A close friend suggested them after he eliminated his own problem a few years back by sticking with them. He mentioned it usually requires several months to clear up completely, and he continues with them weekly now just for maintenance. Beauty places sometimes say a pair of shots will fix everything, and I bought a set a while back but haven't tried it because I don't believe in it. These routines carry no dangers, unlike that approach.

GreyWillow80archiveJun 20

I am about to start KLOW mainly for skin benefits. I have the vials and am reading up first. I am 123 pounds down and have the neck issue which bothers me but nothing will help except surgery or regaining weight which we obviously do not want. I knew this going in and accepted it early as the price paid. More people should understand and accept upfront that this will happen to some degree unless you are twenty and were only overweight for a year. Especially with rapid loss on Reta. Some things can improve appearance or texture a bit but cannot prevent it. Taking care of skin is still worthwhile and should be started if not already.

CopperSignal27archiveJun 20

I have loose skin on my gut, chest, upper arms and some ozempic face after losing about 80 kg. I am not in a position to consider cosmetic procedures. Living with some loose skin is far better and more comfortable than carrying all the extra weight that made even rolling over in bed a multistage effort. The comment about peptide fixes being like putting toothpaste back in the tube is accurate and I feel for those hoping it will work.

KeenBramble97archiveJun 20

I had loose abdominal skin addressed surgically and it was the best decision I ever made. It had been a lifelong insecurity. If you are not as bothered you may not get the same benefit but if it really bothers you then you only live once and the younger it is done the longer you enjoy the result. Stop wasting time on meds or peptides that will not work and find a way to make it happen if it matters to you.

Clinics in those countries have invested heavily in modern facilities and employ skilled practitioners so they are probably about as safe or safer than places in North America or Europe. You also get to travel to interesting locations. I would consider it especially since I have lived in South America and Asia recently.

QuietQuill30archiveJun 20

Nothing seems to make any difference with the loose skin on my midsection. I tried one approach for months but got no results at all. Maybe it will firm up on its own eventually. Surgery is not an option for me.

The last time I lost this much weight I was 30 and my skin tightened up fine. This time at 52 it is not happening the same way.

ClearKettle41archiveJun 21

I started Reta late October last year and began KLOW shortly after. I have been on both steadily since and am down over 50 pounds with no loose skin so far. I also recall a Tim Ferriss interview where Charles Poliquin recommended Gotu Kola for loose skin.

ClearMeadow20archiveJul 9

Adding muscle helps fill out some of the loose skin. Gaining muscle is not easy but during a cut you are flat and depleted. Adding carbs and creatine back in to get full muscles again can help.

For years I used to dodge seeing myself in any looking glass but these days I'm at the fitness center gazing into my own eyes and switching between happiness and sadness.

RustBramble70archiveJul 10

It has been an interesting process and trade-off. Thirty five pounds lighter in less than four months but a face that looks ten years older. I enjoy being lighter, better able to do resistance training, seeing more musculature instead of a midsection bulge, and clothes fitting better with lower blood pressure. The downsides are more facial lines and wrinkles, hollowed cheeks, crepey skin and early skin folds on the midsection. I have not even fully resolved the visceral fat yet. GLOW every other day and GHK-Cu cream are not doing much that is noticeable. Maybe I will start a fundraiser to pay for cosmetic surgery abroad.

PlainAlder11archiveJul 10

Any exercise suggestions for belly fat and slight love handles besides sit ups? I should not lose more weight and will be moving to maintenance soon.

RustBeacon82archiveJul 10

I've reached my target weight and avoided most of the loose neck skin. I began using the copper peptide alongside the other medication and continue injecting two milligrams daily. There's some looseness on my stomach but it's minor. The main concerns for me are the hanging upper arms and the skin on my inner legs, which appears wrinkled and saggy. Given my years, it's improbable the skin will firm up naturally. I've considered trying skin needling to improve it. In the meantime, I've started using longer swim trunks that display my progress but cover the thigh area. From my experience, the copper peptide by itself didn't fully prevent or correct the excess skin, though it did improve my complexion in general. It reduced some wrinkles and made a few old marks look better. It's not a complete fix thoughβ€”only an operation can truly address major skin stretching. Other methods might offer small changes at most. I'll keep using the peptide and skip any surgical options.

AmberLedger89archiveJul 10

After dropping 193 pounds so far I have no chance at tight skin without surgery. It is expensive and leaves scars anyway. I am just happy to feel better and have improved health. The loose skin tells the story.

I see exactly what you mean. My skin seems to have started tightening a bit so there is hope. I stopped taking GHK Cu this week because it is causing too many dark spots from excess free cuprate. It looks like natural skin return to normal takes about a year while GHK Cu shortens that to around twelve months.

RustBeacon82archiveJul 10
↳ replying to @GreyAlder39

How long were you on the GHK-Cu? I have not had any dark spots appear yet.

GreyAlder39archiveJul 10

Over two cycles lasting 25 days apiece, followed by ten more days leading up to discontinuation, I consumed two milligrams each day. Avoiding lumps, itchiness, and contusions proved quite difficult. Once the flushing and those two spots cleared, the pigmentation became apparent. 😱 I could experiment with the isolated version. At winter's onset, I'll consume the liquid copper mix from my container. Copper intake ends there. I may sample other formulations featuring the copper peptide in a moisturizer base.

I have been doing 3 mg per day for nine weeks and have only noticed thicker skin. My wife says it is smoother and stretch marks are lighter but I do not see it. My skin is too loose for any real change there. No dark spots though.

I am three and a half months in continuously and never really got injection site reactions. I will watch for spots. Hopefully yours fade quickly. I also did not know about the KGHK products so off to look for them.

RustWillow86archiveJul 10

How often are you taking it? I have heard of people using it every day and others three times per week.

BlueAlder28archiveJul 10
↳ replying to @RustWillow86

I am taking 2 mg daily for four months or so plus microneedling at 0.2 mm and GHK-Cu topical 4 percent three times a week. I have also been doing the stretches mentioned earlier. Like the injections and topical each one seems to cause a small incremental improvement. No single solution but people I trust say things are getting better.

A search on this forum will probably give better results and there are many of them. There are even travel agencies that specialize in packages where the main goal is cosmetic surgery in a resort setting.

What makes you so skeptical? Feel free to share any negative experience so we understand why you caution against those countries. Five years ago I had complete teeth work with full success and no issues since for a few thousand in Istanbul. Recently I had hair transplantation of thousands of grafts in one of the well known hospitals there with full success and ongoing follow up. The hospital handles many types of procedures including plastic surgery. Five or six weeks ago I contacted them for a tummy tuck quote because I expected significant loose skin and the price was around five thousand including hospital stay. Rooms and service were like a five star hotel.
