This is the first time weight loss has done this to me. My wife says I look skinny but most days the mirror still shows the old heavier version. Then sometimes I catch a glimpse and it's like seeing a stranger. The mismatch feels intense. I figure my brain is just reusing the old stored pictures because that's easier than rebuilding the image from scratch every time.
Before anything else, I want to be clear I'm not posting for sympathy or reassurance. I'm okay. The point is to let anyone who feels this way and is upset know they're not the only one. I'm 5'5" and down over fifty pounds to 134 last week. For the first time I actually saw myself as slim. I'm aiming for 125 but plan to take the last stretch slowly. Today I'm two pounds up at 136, which is normal right before my cycle when I get hungrier and hold water. Nothing else about my routine or body has changed, yet all week I look huge to myself. My arms, face, stomach and legs all seem back at the old size. If someone showed me a photo and said I'd regained everything I'd believe them.
