Reta Side Effect: Burping

37 replies19 peopleJan 3, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Why does reta cause burping or belching and does it go away or need management?

Users report increased burping or belching shortly after raising their reta dose, linked to slowed digestion that can lead to trapped air or fermentation. The effect often eases within one to three weeks as the body adjusts, though some experience it mainly right after injections. Suggestions include fiber, probiotics, enzymes, simethicone, or acid reducers, with mixed personal results. Several note they simply tolerate it or adjust meal size rather than treat it.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether the burps indicate the dose is too high and should be lowered versus simply waiting for adaptation; also whether they signal low stomach acid or bacterial overgrowth requiring specific remedies.

Still open

How long the burps persist for people who keep increasing their dose versus those who stay steady, and whether certain probiotic strains are reliably helpful.

Nothing here is advice.

Hi everyone I have been on 2 mg every six days for two weeks and decided to move up to 3 mg. Two days in my appetite is suppressed to a nice level and my energy has gone way up which is a plus but I have started burping a lot. I figure the burps are probably from slow digestion so I am wondering if my digestion is too slow. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

SharpFenwick93archiveJan 3

When I reached 3 mg on reta I did not get the sulfur burps but they showed up the other way usually the day after my shot. A fiber supplement and a good probiotic are common and have helped some people on these drugs with gut side effects. Also make sure you drink enough water since that can keep things moving.

PatientThistle39archiveJan 3

Probiotics like l. Casei help me a lot with sulfur burps.

SteadyTimber49archiveJan 3

I also burp a lot, not sulfur ones just normal burps. Seems like a lot of air. I have decided it does not bother me.

That's interesting, I had no idea. Now I realize these show up in fermented dairy like yogurt and kefir, along with the pill I keep skipping. I found a few more options tied to GLPs after looking online.

I use a proton pump inhibitor but it does not suit everyone.

ClearBeacon24archiveJan 3

Roughly three weeks into reta mine had already quit.

Thank you for the info water is fine but a fiber supplement sounds like a good plan.

Rather than those eggy burps this seems like ordinary gut gas instead. The issue is starting to get better now.

It is fast I started at 1 mg and gradually increased. I am thinking if I started out higher I would have experienced them sooner.

BlueBeacon12archiveJan 11

Yeah, I've run into that issue too. Since I'm using a couple additional compounds along with this one, it's helpful to pinpoint the source. It doesn't bother me too much though. For those who have dealt with the belching, did it eventually stop for you, or might it persist throughout the duration of use?

The symptoms faded for me in roughly seven days. I suspect this occurred because I increased the amount too rapidly.

Burp is too polite a word to describe mine. More like belch and I am not sure if that is strong enough. There is no polite way to belch.

IronWillow84archiveJan 11
↳ replying to @PatientAnchor11

Yeah it is tricky. It is a shame that the belch cannot be channeled into a musical instrument.

GreyLantern75archiveJan 11

I believed stomach upset might mean raising the amount too fast or that my system is still reacting strongly enough to skip going higher. After each weekly shot I sometimes notice this discomfort yet it only shows up at night after a big dinner so maybe a regular sized one would prevent it. Over the next few weeks while stepping up my amount I'll figure out more.

IronWillow84archiveJan 11

I think the receptors pick up on raising the dose too fast. Those burps tend to come from digestion slowing enough that bacteria start breaking down whatever's in the upper gut, and it happens with any meal.

SharpCinder28archiveJan 11

I would not be too concerned since not likely small intestinal bacterial overgrowth generally speaking.

SharpCinder28archiveJan 11

I heard sauerkraut packs an enormous amount of beneficial bacteria in every serving. Someone mentioned fermenting milk using a spore forming strain to create their own yogurt. It surprised me because I hadn't considered that approach before, given how these types survive digestion better and offer unique advantages. Apparently many who do this at home combine it with other cultures to achieve both a creamy consistency like regular yogurt and the durability of the spores.

I recognize this isn't indigestion because that used to bother me over many years until a medication available only through a doctor's order back then cleared it completely. Everything stayed fine afterward. My burps start from deep inside near my feet.

SharpCinder28archiveJan 12

I cut back on the amount until the effects started appearing beginning at my ankles.

SharpCinder28archiveJan 12

I rely on a few things as needed for my stomach troubles like gas pills, a generic acid tablet, and either the pink liquid remedy or the dissolving tablets. They each target separate parts of the burping problem. I take the gas pill during or right after eating so it works ahead of time instead of waiting for issues to appear. Bacterial supplements come in too, along with occasional fermented milk drinks and pickled cabbage on my meatless sausages. Enzyme capsules get added when I happen to think of them.

AmberFenwick92archiveJan 23

Each time I do a shot my belches end up reeking horribly and this lingers for two days.

SteadyFenwick51archiveJan 27

I actually do not mind it. It is a bit of a reminder that it is doing its thing and slowing down the digestive process. It means I am eating enough too. But I am not belching just small sulphur burps.

IronWillow84archiveJan 27
↳ replying to @AmberFenwick92

Those side effects faded for me once my receptors had settled down since the amount taken was excessive.

AmberFenwick92archiveJan 27
↳ replying to @IronWillow84

Lol I hope so currently on 5 mg and going to move to 8 mg after another five weeks of being on 5 mg.

AmberFenwick92archiveJan 30
↳ replying to @IronWillow84

I started at the smallest amount for a couple weeks before going up to the following level. After that my intention is to increase once more. I read about someone who saw nothing happen until they tried a much bigger quantity and suddenly noticed major shifts. At the present amount my weight has not changed at all even though my meals are not large so i think going higher makes sense for me.

AmberFenwick92archiveJan 30

I haven't shed any pounds so far, even though my hunger has dropped and I deal with stomach troubles after each injection like loose stools plus those eggy burps. I'll probably stay at five milligrams for another couple weeks before moving up to ten.

SharpHarbour88archiveJan 30

Try bismuth subsalicylate. Works like a charm.

ClearQuill77archiveJan 30

At first I experienced this problem and tried nearly all the recommendations from others. I adjusted what I ate prior to and on the day I got the injection. Occasionally I consumed nothing but soup. Consuming rich meals triggered the belching. For a period I also used digestive supplements and beneficial bacteria. I swallowed antacid or anti-gas tablets. Eventually the symptom disappeared within several weeks and has not returned since.

PatientAlder64archiveFeb 8

Every time my amount goes higher these gross burps appear with an awful odor like spoiled chips and they hang around for two or three days before fading.

WryBramble37archiveFeb 8

With tirz there was plenty of burping for me and reta brings the same issue. Sulfur ones that smell bad aren't part of it. All that occurs is frequent burping. Oh well.

BlueAlder12archiveFeb 18
↳ replying to @SteadyTimber49

This thread might be outdated and from a different section, yet after administering fifteen milligrams of the compound through shots, I noticed some belching. It generally starts about a day later and continues for just one or two days. The gas lacks any foul smell like sulfur, it's purely air. If I were still in middle school, my ability to burp out the entire alphabet at once would have made me popular!

PatientAnchor11archiveFeb 18
↳ replying to @PatientAlder64

How is it you know what rotten chips smell like?

WarmSparrow10archiveFeb 18
↳ replying to @SharpFenwick93

Usually I mention trying an acid booster paired with an enzyme because it doesn't cost much. Heartburn along with belching sometimes stems from not having enough acidity. Without reaching the right acidity level the valve won't shut the passage from the throat. But slow movement through the gut might mean gases from microbes breaking things down. A dose of good bacteria may then make a difference. What gets eaten plays a big role in that.

PlainAlder11archiveFeb 18
↳ replying to @SharpFenwick93

We do this with a protein powder. Oat bran collagen and good low carb protein powder with ten ounces of water and shake it in the mornings.

Bro it is a mix of chips and rotten food I do not know how to explain it.
