Probably upset an admin or crossed some line on acceptable opinions. Or maybe they did nothing at all. The site once suspended me for three days just for some mild complaints about airport security staff that got labeled classist.
Of course the platform that removes everything related to that topic also removed the topic itself. Next thing you know messaging apps and chat servers for the same subject will get shut down too. I can't figure out why group admins don't just move to private apps or self-hosted options instead. It would keep the casual users out anyway.
Getting banned there isn't difficult at all. It feels like some kind of thought control operation.

Totally agree. It's become tougher to get kicked off that other site lately. I haven't been banned there in a couple years even though I've been trying on purpose. The original platform just takes itself way too seriously.

You sound like you might have been adopted. I should ask my parents why they gave my sister away. Every time I start a new class on that book I tell the students it's the one thing everyone should read, even though I've never actually read it myself.

These days that might actually be an advantage. This is my five hundredth post here.
I checked out the site after seeing it mentioned and found mostly strange, low-effort, or poorly written posts. Maybe I landed in the wrong sections, but there was a lot of bad information floating around.

It really depends on the specific community and its moderators. Some sections have professional mods who stay polite but consistent. Others are just chaotic and the site-wide filters sometimes hit people for edgy jokes. I've been permanently removed twice. The place leans heavily American even in country-specific areas. The worst spots are the true crime ones where people harass families and spread nonsense. Bottom line, if you know the right corners you can still find decent stuff, but the message got cut off.

I've been IP banned from there more than ten times and stopped counting. Their detection for evasion has improved, so getting back on would require effort with proxies and building reputation again. It's probably not worth it anymore since the place is flooded with younger users and average people. Site-wide filters still catch you for unpopular opinions. It used to be better before the official app brought in more casual users and everything got more political after 2016.

They never assigned that novel at my school, but I read another classic war satire at fifteen while working in a shop. It made me laugh so hard I cried. Reading it again at thirty, none of the humor landed anymore. Still don't understand why.
People who complain about the site are using it wrong. A few sections like the one with twisted wishes, the egg substitution fails, and the oddly specific insults are genuinely funny. The creative writing and horror story prompts also produce some great stuff sometimes.

The writing prompts section used to have real quality stories around 2014 but hasn't impressed me lately. The horror story one feels played out now.
The strange part is they ban discussion of sourcing those compounds yet allow paid ads from sellers right on the platform.
Not a big loss, mostly confused people there anyway. I used to think one particular group was decent until I asked questions and realized most participants seemed off. I left in frustration.
Even though the site is awful, I have to admit it helped me discover these other forums and that one group.
There seem to be lots of fake accounts pushing doubt on rivals or promoting their own stuff. Helpful posts exist but are getting rarer. Surveys used to show how much people relied on the site for product info, and now advertisers have flooded it so much that real opinions are hard to trust.

I didn't realize many used that group beyond the testing discussions. One huge chat isn't a great format for learning. Their beginner guide and site are still useful for total newcomers though.
The site discouraging independent thinking? What a shock.
This whole thread is odd. Someone who says they teach a book they've never read is complaining about the platform while trying hard to return to it. What's going on here?

That user was too good for this place. They showed up, posted constantly, and you never knew what the next one would be. Burned bright then disappeared. We didn't deserve them.
