Daily vs Weekly Weighing Routines on Weight Loss Medication

79 replies68 peopleFeb 15, 2026β˜† Follow
Summary

how often to weigh during medication-assisted weight loss to balance data tracking with mental stability

Users divide between daily scale use for trend graphs and 7-day averages versus weekly or less frequent checks to limit emotional reactions to normal fluctuations. Early losses of 18-28 lb are commonly followed by stalls, with some smoothing data via apps or shifting entirely to clothing fit once in maintenance. Daily tracking is praised for capturing fluid changes and body-composition metrics, while weekly weighing is reported to feel more motivating because changes appear larger. Frequency decisions also involve weighing mindset effects and how to handle periods away from routine.

After wrapping up week five on reta the numbers have flatlined and that has me feeling a little down. Still the four kilos gone overall is decent and I can tell I'm getting leaner. I've hardly eaten so maybe it's just water or waste adding up. Would checking the scale only every other week keep me from getting discouraged?

WarmMeadow92archiveFeb 15

Eight pounds in five weeks is really solid progress. Nice work. Checking once a week should keep you from overthinking it.

LevelThistle44archiveFeb 15

I step on the same scale every morning when I'm home and log the numbers. I like seeing the full picture and know drops aren't always steady. Daily feels easier for me to stick with than weekly and the daily ups and downs don't bother me. Nine pounds in five weeks is a reasonable pace no matter your starting point. If the daily swings get to you emotionally then spacing it out more could help.

CopperQuill51archiveFeb 15

I check every Monday morning right after the bathroom. Down eight and a half pounds over six weeks so far. Not the huge drops some folks post but it's steady movement and that works for me.

QuietWillow76archiveFeb 15

Daily weighing helps me spot the overall direction. A scale that logs everything means the numbers stay available for years. I can pull up what I weighed on a given day from three years back. I skip only when traveling. The health app sends alerts when a new trend shows up though those are rare now that I'm holding steady. During the early loss phase I never got alerts for gains even on flat weeks. The alerts only trigger on consistent movement either way. I trusted the process early because the constant food thoughts disappeared and I stopped worrying about how long it would take.

CopperSignal68archiveFeb 15

Seven months in my routine is wake up check the body comp scale then eat breakfast. Once that's done everything from the scale sleep tracker and phone ecosystem has synced and I review the fresh numbers to plan that day's workout.

Here's an idea that helped me stay sane. I fed all my details into Gemini including age height starting weight goal weight weeks on the meds macros and exercise. I mentioned that scale noise had made me quit before and asked it to look at my recent three weeks averaging only 1.6 pounds lost. It gave a straight data breakdown without fluff saying the slowdown makes sense physiologically and broke out smaller deficit from lower body weight plus other factors like creatine and fiber affecting the numbers.

RustHarbour70archiveFeb 15

Daily checks with a seven day average noted. I'm also lifting so the scale has been flat for months even while fat keeps coming off visibly. The scale isn't the only thing worth watching.

ClearMeadow20archiveFeb 15

Daily right after the morning bathroom. The garmin data is useful either way. I focus more on the seven day average but a low single number still feels good. It also explains the higher readings. I've skipped days when I knew I was too fragile for whatever showed up and gave myself time to settle any bloating.

Four kilos in five weeks is real progress. The meds aren't meant for starving yourself though they're meant to help build better habits. Under fueling can lead to muscle loss slower metabolism more fatigue and more stalls. Using the time to hit protein eat real food try natural fasting add light lifting and learn normal portions tends to work better long term. Weighing less often can ease the mental side but week to week stalls are common anyway.

AmberBeacon65archiveFeb 15

Daily weighing plus daily macro tracking works best for me. When I allow myself to skip I tend to stay the same instead of moving down.

ClearSparrow87archiveFeb 15

Every morning after waking and peeing. Day to day moves don't matter much to me since they vary anyway. Logging daily lets me average for steadier week to week numbers. Four kilos in five weeks is strong. I've slowed to about 0.7 to 0.8 kg a week lately because of the holiday but anything at or above half a kilo still counts as fine.

IronWillow10archiveFeb 15

Pretty much every day unless I know a bigger meal happened earlier.

WarmHarbour28archiveFeb 15

The point about one pound at two hundred being a bigger percentage than at two thirty eight is one of the clearest explanations I've seen. I aim for once a week. I'm simple about it and skip if I'm already feeling heavy.

LevelTimber64archiveFeb 15

Every morning. It keeps me on track.

BrightLantern89archiveFeb 15

Every morning. This thread reminded me I own a Wyze scale so the data should be saved but the app got deleted months ago and the readings just vanish over Bluetooth. Lesson learned.

SlowHarbour27archiveFeb 15

Morning and night right now because things are all over the place. Just started a break from reta but went big on super bowl and hit 229.5. Next morning was 219.1 then five thousand calories later ended the day at 227 and woke at 224.5 after moving around. Love catching the one or two pound drops before a big bathroom visit.

You lost twenty pounds in six weeks? That's impressive.

IronWillow10archiveFeb 15
↳ replying to @BlueAlder12

When I restarted back in July the early weeks came off fast too. Looking back my six week total was about the same.

QuietWillow76archiveFeb 15

Try Withings instead. Their blood pressure cuff links to the same account.

BluePebble18archiveFeb 15

Daily while I'm pausing tirz until after my daughter's March wedding. If the number starts climbing I'll restart. It's been hovering between 125 and 128 for a month which feels fine since my original target was 150.

PlainSignal69archiveFeb 15

Daily on a body composition scale. Even on days the weight stays put the fat and lean mass numbers often shift. If you're lifting the scale can stall while body comp keeps improving.

BlueAlder12archiveFeb 15

I'm figuring out maintenance now and only weigh when food noise creeps up to decide if I need another dose. My weight has always moved around a lot anyway like jumping from 227 to 240 two weeks ago then back to 229 a couple days later.

CopperAlder51archiveFeb 15

My scale reminds me three times a week. I've been stuck after fifty seven pounds lost like my body is defending a new set point so I switched to once a week and dropped another pound. I just went up to ten milligrams a couple weeks ago and will give it time since eight worked well for six weeks then faded. My feelings about the scale are mixed right now.

LevelThistle44archiveFeb 15
↳ replying to @BlueAlder12

Close enough. Starting TRT added fluid that should clear by next month and changed the slope.

ClearBeacon24archiveFeb 15

Every three days first thing in the morning. Daily was too much for my head with all the ups and downs.

SteadyQuill55archiveFeb 15

Every day after coffee before the shower then into the app. When fluctuations start bothering me I switch the scale and app to kilograms since I don't read them well and that stops the number from affecting my mood.

RustLantern99archiveFeb 15

Every morning with no exceptions at all.

CopperAlder51archiveFeb 15

I've been known to step on and off before it even registers anything.

BlueBramble59archiveFeb 15

Every morning. It helps me stay accountable to what I'm eating.

WryBramble37archiveFeb 15

Only when I go to the gym on the InBody machine. Maintenance means I'm mostly tracking fat versus muscle trends.

ClearHarbour45archiveFeb 15

Every Saturday morning after using the bathroom. Usually down a pound or two but yesterday up two instead. Happens. Hoping it's just water from the tesa I started about a week ago.

PlainCompass54archiveFeb 15

Every morning right after peeing and before clothes so fabric weight doesn't change anything. It shows patterns like a few pounds up after heavy carbs the night before or down after a long hot bath. Those aren't fat shifts just water. In maintenance I stay inside a five pound window and adjust if I go over.

PatientAnchor11archiveFeb 15

Congrats on the start and keep going. Four kilos is eight point eight pounds. Look at me doing the math.

PatientAnchor11archiveFeb 15
↳ replying to @SteadyQuill55

I do too. Two point two pounds per kilo. Sorry to spoil the fun.

NorthCompass62archiveFeb 15

Daily weigher here. I use the number to set that day's calories and macros then log everything in a spreadsheet for trends weekly averages and lines. Wednesday is the official day for the week's official change. A short plateau messed with my head by putting a bump in the downward graph but it was useful practice in trusting the process and just grinding. Planning regular dexa scans for more trend data too.

KeenWillow56archiveFeb 15

Daily because seeing the same number week after week would discourage me. I expect the daily ups and downs. Started tirz October eleventh and down eighteen pounds. Not huge numbers but I had been creeping up before so stopping that counts.

AmberSparrow73archiveFeb 15

Once a day at the same time on a smart scale. I like looking through all the data it collects.

SteadyQuill55archiveFeb 15

Even math that actually interested me slipped from memory super fast so forgetting the stuff you want me to learn and dozing off without worry comes naturally πŸ˜€

GreySparrow64archiveFeb 15

I begin each day brimming with eager expectation.

PlainThistle36archiveFeb 16

I check the scale each morning just to note my status and keep it in mind. Increases don't bother me and neither do drops. At the moment my focus is on staying steady overall. I also step on it again on Friday once work ends ahead of the shot so I can log my real week-to-week figure. Whatever shows up that evening becomes the entry I record even if it sits above or below the week's mean. This is simply my routine. Now and then I check my weight prior to sleeping. I make an effort not to obsess over the digits.

SteadyQuill83archiveFeb 16

I've stopped checking my weight on a regular basis since starting maintenance. Getting on the scale every single day just feels too stressful now. I'd pick up on any changes if my pants or shirts started feeling snug. If they keep fitting without any need to go up a size, then I'm satisfied with how things stand.

ClearLedger45archiveFeb 16

Every other day basically.

RustHarbour10archiveFeb 16

For the most part I get it done each week but now and then I overlook it.

SlowMeadow76archiveFeb 16

I check my weight nearly each morning once I've finished washing up. The readings don't drop every single time yet this helps small daily improvements feel more achievable. The once a week measurement falls on injection day and I enter it into the app I use for tracking.

GreyPebble50archiveFeb 16

At first I checked every day yet the ups and downs started messing with my head. Eventually I switched to once a week and that helped because I could track the overall drop over seven days. Still got twenty pounds ahead of me. The scale hasn't moved in the last six weeks though I avoided adding any extra from the festive period.

LevelTimber10archiveFeb 16

Weekly is my limit since otherwise it takes over everything for me, and afterward I tweak the numbers using the tracker. My method for handling intake works in much the same way. I set one total across seven days that I can consume, yet the portion allowed each day keeps shifting around.

WarmBramble98archiveFeb 16

I've dropped a total of 28 kilograms and have held steady for seven months. Back during the reduction period I checked my weight just weekly, which turned into a regular pattern. I always did this on the second day after the shot, figuring that might be when the number is lowest since the medication appears to shed some fluid. A few times I checked later in the week and spotted a small increase instead. Spotting that minor rise still throws me off mentally, which feels unreasonable. I'm also unsure about weighing myself every day. This reaction probably comes from a long history of dealing with body image and confidence. I expect that gradually I'll feel steadier and place more faith in the treatment plus my habits. It's a strange ongoing adaptation.
